Trail riders hold benefit ride for St. Jude
Terry and Tricia Adams get ready to
head out to the trail on their horses,
Rebel and Cinnamon, to raise money
for St. Jude Children’s Hospital. The
Adams were the top fund-raisers for
the “ride.” Submitted photo/ MJ Bridges
Madison County Trail Riders saddled up
and rode out for cancer as they held their first-
annual benefit trail ride for St. Jude Children’s
Research Hospital May 16 at Watson Mill
Bridge State Park, Comer.
Riders of all ages and their horses or mules
were invited to “saddle up” and participate,
with each rider being responsible for a dona
tion of $20 plus any other donations/sponsor
ships they could bring. The top fund-raisers
for the rider were Terry and Tricia Adams,
Colbert, who raised a total of $1,250.
Linda Henderson, Founder and President
of the Madison County Trail Riders, thanked
those who participated in the ride and who
contributed door prizes, saying that despite
the weather, the event was a “huge success,"
raising over $2,200.
After the ride, MCTR sold hamburger and
hot dog plates, then followed with an auction
and door prize drawings of items donated by
local businesses and individual contributions.
Cancer is the leading disease killer of
American children and St. Jude paves the
way as the center for the study of these
diseases. Approximately 4,000 children are
being seen at St. Jude. St. Jude covers all
costs not covered by insurance. Families
without insurance are never asked to pay. St.
Jude is supported by public contributions.
Monies raised from this event will build an
endowment fund to ensure St. Jude’s contin
ued efforts.

handicapped ramp. Smith is 12
years old and has cerebral palsy,
which confines her to a wheelchair.
“It does not keep her from having
a bright smile, a wonderful per

Rotary leaders. “She is a straight

camp this summer, but is a little
apprehensive." When the ramp was
completed, she expertly raced her
power chair up and down the ramp
with obvious pleasure. She told the
workers: ‘Thank you all, and I am
very grateful for your work on the
ramp." Workers from the Rotary

these handicapped ramps come
from not only members of the
club, but also from the community
in Madison County. The support
comes from people making dona
tions, buying onions, raffle tick
ets, the golf tournament and other
fund-raising activities.
