Bowen, 31, died Monday,
June 8, 2009.
He had resided in Barrow
County for all of his life, and
was the son of John Bowen of
Winder and the late Martha
Wilson Bowen. He was pre
ceded in death by a sister,
Sharon Bowen Ruppel. A
member of the Winder First
United Methodist Church,
he was a 1995 graduate
of Winder-Barrow High
School. He was a member
of Boy Scout Troop #700
and achieved the rank of
Eagle Scout. Mr. Bowen was
employed by Diversified
Cabinet Distributors.
Survivors in addition to his
father, include a sister and
brother-in-law, Jennifer and
Chris Antonakos, Cumming;
and niece, Martha McKenzie
“Marty" Antonakos.

illness.
Born on April 15, 1928, in
Jackson County, she was the
daughter of the late John and
Margaret Pace Randolph. She
was retired from Con-Agra
Poultry and was a member of
New Salem Baptist Church.
Mrs. Branch was preceded
in death by her husband, J.C.
Branch Sr.; and a host of
brothers, sisters, nieces and
nephews.

22 children, and was retired
from Mack Trucks, Inc. with
over 30 years of service.
She was a member of the
Snellville United Methodist
Church.
Survivors include her hus

Born in Bradenton, Fla.,
she was the daughter of the
late James Henry and Lottie
Fant Harris. Mrs. Cook was

band, William Milton Cook;
a son, Robert “Bob” Carter;
and brothers, James and Bill
Harris. Moving to Athens in
1954, she became the District
Manager for Avon and may
be better known for working
at the information desk at the
Georgia Square Mall when it
first opened.

Comer; daughter and son-in-

2009.
Born in Gwinnett County,
she was the daughter of the
late Warren and Tempie
Kilgore Tuggle. She was
preceded in death by her
husband, Alfred Garfield
Etheridge, Sr.; and sisters,
Vivian Cagle and Dorothy
Mabry. She was a mem
ber of the Midway United
Methodist Church and played
basketball during her high
school years before graduat
ing in 1942. After retiring
from R & R Manufacturing
Company, she opened her
own clothing stores in Carl
and Winder. She was a past
Carl Town Council member
and served as mayor of Carl,
the first female mayor in
Barrow County. A member
of the Eastern Star, she was a
volunteer at Barrow Regional
Medical Center.
Survivors include a son and
daughter-in-law, Alfred G.
“Terpie” and Rose Etheridge,
Carl; grandchildren, Joey
Etheridge, and Debbie and
Redd Martin; great-grand
children, Kelley Martin and

ed illness.
Born on August 16, 1927,
in Jackson County, she was
the daughter of the late James
and Rosa Bowles Thurmond.
She was a Christian, and a
member of Westside Baptist
Church, where she was a
Sunday School Teacher
and was active in the senior
ministry. She was employed
by the former Shirley’s and
Strong Brothers at Lakeshore
Mall, and was a seamstress
for many years in the com
munity. Mrs. Garner was
preceded in death by sisters,
Josie Thurmond and Runelle
Luther; brother, James
Thurmond Jr.; and an infant
son, Howell S. Garner.
Survivors include her
husband of 61 years,
Harold Garner, Gainesville;
daughters, Cynthia Garner
Millwood and Regina
Garner Blackwell, both of
Gainesville; grandchildren,

illness. She was employed

over 10 years. Mrs. Grimes
