31, died Friday, June 5, 2009
at Northeast Georgia Medical
Center following a brief ill
ness.
Born on February 17,
1978, in Hall County, he
was the son of Robert J.
and Darlene Elaine Walter
Hubbard, Gainesville. He
attended Gainesville High
School, worked at Milliken
& Company in New Holland,
and was of the Baptist
denomination. Mr. Hubbard
was preceded in death by his
grandfather, Emory Hubbard;
a sister, Kim Roper; and
brother, Michael Hubbard.
Survivors in addition to
his parents include his wife,
Ashley Hubbard, Lula; sons,
Tyler and Jackson Hubbard,
both of Lula; brother, Jeff
Hubbard, Gainesville; grand
parents, Howard and Joan
Bridges, Gainesville; and
grandmother, Ruby Era
Walter.

“Chip” Huff Jr., 53, died
Thursday, June 4, 2009.
Born in Clarke County, he
was the son of Rita Oldham
Huff of Statham and the late
Bill Huff Sr. He was a gradu
ate of Oconee County High
School and was a third gen
eration of Huff Roofing and
Contractors.
Survivors in addition to
his mother, include chil
dren, Justin (Victoria) Huff,
Carlton B. Huff and Alyson
Huff, all of Athens; sisters,
Vickie (Paul) Baker, Bogart,
and Kay Huff, Nicholson;
brother, Tim (Gail) Huff,

- William “Bill" H.
Hutchinson, 83, died Friday,
June 5, 2009.
Born on February 20,1926,
in Roanoke, Va., he was the
son of the late George and Nell
Hutchinson. iMaa&j —
He was/is
a member of
the Emmanuel
Episcopal Church in Athens.
He was a veteran, having
served in the United States
Army during World War II in
the Philippines, and was hon
orably discharged in 1945 at
the end of the war. He worked
as a civil engineer when leav
ing the Army, working for the
City of Lynchburg, Arlington
County, and retired from
Fairfax County in 1987, all in
Virginia. He was instrumen
tal in being founding mem
bers of the Warrenton Kennel
Club, the Culpepper Kennel
Club, and the Fredericksburg
Kennel Club, all in Virginia.
Survivors include his
wife of 54 years, Mary M.
Hutchinson; daughters, Dale
Scalici, Cynthia Smith and
Karen Hutchinson; two
grandsons; three granddaugh
ters; four great-grandsons;
and one great-granddaughter.
Memorial services will be
held Monday, June 15, at 2
p.m., at Emmanuel Episcopal
Church, which is located
at 498 Prince Ave., Athens.
Burial will be conducted later
in Maryland at Cedar Hill
Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations
may be made to the Episcopal
Relief and Development and
any amount will be appreci
ated.

Friday, June 5, 2009, at
his residence following an
extended illness.
Born on April 15, 1917,
in Robbinsville, N.C., he
was the son of the late Jeff
and Mae Williams Jordan.
He was a farmer and of the
Baptist denomination. Mr.
Jordan was preceded in death
by his sister, Florence Jordan;
and brother, Boyd Jordan.
Survivors include his

WINDER - Jerry Lassiter,
77, died Tuesday, June 2,
2009.
Mr. Lassiter earned a bach
elor's degree in music and
was a band director when
drafted into the Korean Wait
He earned a
master’s degree
in accounting
and became a
Certified Public Accountant
and was a co-partner in an
accounting firm in Dallas,
Texas. He became a partner
in KPMG Accounting firm
and was the coordinator of
the Southeastern Regional
Financial Institutions divi
sion; was president and chief
executive officer of First
Federal Savings Bank of
Georgia; and was a partner in
C & L Consumer Finance.
Mr. Lassiter was a direc
tor of Financial Institutions
Retirement Fund,
White Plains, N.Y., and
Electromagnetic Sciences,
Duluth, Ga.; was a faculty
member of the University of
Georgia School of Banking
and the School of Banking of
the South, Baton Rouge, La.;
was president and chief exec
utive officer of First Federal
Savings Bank of Georgia,
Winder; was a guest writer of
articles for professional pub
lications; was a guest speaker
at several of the annual meet
ings of financial institutions;
was a lifetime member of
the Barrow County Historical
Society; was chairman of the
board of the Barrow County
Industrial Development
Authority; was chairman of
the board of Barrow County
Hospital; and was president
of the Chamber of Commerce,
where he started the pass
ing of the cannon ball from
the outgoing to the incoming
president, and it is still being
done 26 years later.
Mr. Lassiter was a member
of the American Institute of
Certified Public Accountants;
the Georgia Society of CPAs
and Texas Society of CPAs.
He is survived by his wife
of 57 years, Bobbye; two
daughters and sons-in-law,
Karen and Wayne Barber,
and Kay and Tom Morris;
four grandchildren, Houston
Barber, Clayton Barber,
Hannah Morris and Haley
Stapleton.
Funeral services were held
Friday, June 5, in the cha
pel of Smith Funeral Home,
Winder, with the Rev. Jim
Brooks officiating.

89, died Sunday, June 7,

Born in Barrow County,
he was the son of the late
Robert Early and Pearl Ann
Hull Lovin. He
was a member
of the Winder
First United
Methodist Church, and was
a veteran, having served in
the United States Navy. He
enjoyed raising cattle and
farming, loved ones stated.
Mr. Lovin was preceded in
death by his first wife of
50 years, Elizabeth Moore
Lovin; a son, Phillip Grady
Lovin; brothers, Leearnel,
Otis and Carson Lovin; and
sisters, Pauline Stanley and
Grace Ridgeway.
Survivors include his wife,
Gladys Lovin; a son and
daughter-in-law, Blake and
Carol Lovin, Auburn; daugh
ter and son-in-law, Phyllis
and Joe Thomas, Lilburn;
grandchildren, Travis and
Lisa Lovin, Leah and Allen

Muse, 80, died Saturday, June
6, 2009, at Athens Regional
Medical Center
in Athens.
Born in
Killen, Ala.,
on June 7, 1929, he was the
son of the late Albert Lester
and Irma Ethel Compton
Muse. He served in the Naval
Reserves and was called to
active duty during the Korean
War, and was employed at
TVA for several years after
his discharge. Mr. Muse was
preceded in death by a sister,
Beth Clemmons.
Survivors include wife,
Edna Mae Muse; daughter
and son-in-law, Judy Muse
and Jim Battey, Conyers;
son and daughter-in-law,
Patrick and Lee Ann Muse,

ing a courageous battle with
cancer.

ate of Piedmont College and
Logan Chiropractic College,
former owner of chiroprac
tic businesses in Cleveland
and Commerce and most
recently taught at two local
private Christian schools
in Habersham County. He
was a member of Compass
Community Church, Athens,
attended Harvest Christian
Church in Clarkesville, and
was a veteran having served
in the United States Army.
Dr. Tench was a loving hus
band, father, grandfather and
friend who will be deeply
missed, loved ones stated.
Survivors include his lov
ing wife of 35 years, Lynn
Slaton Tench, Alto; son and
daughter-in-law, Bryant and
Jennifer Tench, Clarkesville;
sister and brother-in-law,
Karen and Jim Tench,
Cornelia; grandchildren,
Katherine Tench and Andrew
Tench, both of Clarkesville,
niece, Jenny T. Sanders,

the Harvest Christian Church
with Pastor Rick Cox and the
Rev. Craig Bayham officiat
ing. Dr. Tench’s wishes were
to be cremated.

for 27 years, and was a mem
ber of Level Grove Baptist
Church, where she attended
the Truth Seekers Sunday
School Class and taught the
children’s Sunday School
Class. She enjoyed traveling,
shopping and her beloved
dog. Holly. Mrs. Wright was
preceded in death by a sister,
Joyce White.
