The Anchor Church holds
groundbreaking ceremony
A large crowd gathered on
Drake Woods Road Thursday
evening for a groundbreak
ing ceremony for The Anchor
Church.
Construction is scheduled to
begin this week and church lead
ers hope to have the project com
pleted by Christmas. The new
church includes 89 members.
Pastor Wendell Hanley spoke at
Thursday ceremony, saying The
Anchor Church will be a “healing
station for souls,” where “we’re
anchored in the things that God
wants us to be anchored in.”
Hanley said the church has
received numerous donations and
he expressed thanks to all who
contributed to Anchor's efforts.
For instance, he thanked Kenneth
Segars for donating the five
acres of land for the church site.
He also thanked Little Country
Church for allowing members of
The Anchor Church, who moved
from Liberty Church, to meet
temporarily. Anchor youth pastor
Richard Duncan and his crew
will oversee construction of the
church, with church members
also pitching in.
While church members
expressed joy over the upcom
ing construction project, they also
joined hands and gathered for a
moment of prayer with the wife
of Travis Adams. The 34-year-old
Danielsville man was paralyzed
after a river diving accident June
17 and church members prayed
to God for him to be healed.
Anchor leaders hope to have their new church built by Christmas.
