Coker elected vice-president of
Northeast District 4-H Senior Board
Nathan Coker, son of
Rex and Melinda Coker,
was elected to serve as the
2009-10 vice-president of
the Northeast District 4-H
Senior Board of Directors.
Coker, a senior at Madison
County High School, will
serve on the eight-member
board that will plan and
lead the 4-H events for the
members of the 39-county
district.
Coker, who also is a
member of the MCHS Rifle
Team, has served as pres
ident of the County 4-H
Board of Directors for two
years and participates in the
target sports project area.
In addition to his district
obligations, he will be work
ing with state officials to
increase awareness of 4-H.

The Madison County School System has announced that Madison County Middle School’s
Michelle Krolikowski is the district-wide teacher of the year and Ila Elementary’s Willie
Lou Stoyle is the support employee of the year. The individual school winners are as
follows: Jacelyn Deal (Colbert Elementary teacher of the year), Julie Finnegan (Colbert
Elementary support employee of the year), Joey Hill (Comer Elementary teacher of the
year), Dorothy Benson (Comer support employee person of the year), Christy Collier
(Danielsville teacher of the year), Joseph Jarrett (Danielsville support employee of the
year), Amanda Griffin (Hull-Sanford Elementary teacher of the year), Teresa Bishop
(Hull-Sanford support employee of the year), Heather Hanley (Ila Elementary teacher
of the year), Willie Lou Stoyle (Ila Elementary support employee of the year), Michelle

invites new
members to Aug.
25 meeting
The Madison County Future
Farmers of America Alumni
would like to invite all past and
present members of the Future
Farmers of America to the first
meeting of the new school year,
which is scheduled for Aug. 25
at 7 p.m. at Madison County
High School in the agricultural
room.
Members say those interested
did not have to be a member of
FFA when they attended school
to become an alumni member
now.

agriculture and have a desire
to see our children grow up
and keep the farming business

Eight Madison County students participated in
the Georgia Summer Special Olympics at Emory
University May 29-31, winning 11 medals — six
of them gold — in track and field and swimming
events.
Medalists included:
•Hannah Baird—25-meter swim (gold), 50-meter
swim (fourth).
•J.C. Edwards — 25-meter swim (silver),
50-meter swim (bronze).
•Aniston Franklin —25-meter swim (gold),
50-meter swim (fourth).
•David McElroy —200-meter dash (bronze),
100-meter dash (fifth).
•Nathan Pierce — 100-meter dash (gold), 200-
meter dash (gold).
•Nicolas Pierce — gold in 15-meter walk (gold),
15-meter floatation (gold).
•Bryan Roach —25-meter swim (fourth),
50-meter swim (fifth).
•Karlee Tyner — 15-meter walk (silver) and
15-meter flotation (silver).

The Madison County Freshman
Academy FFA chapter has a new
face.
Sarah Kane has been placed at
the Freshman Academy this fall
semester to complete her student
teaching requirement. Kane is an
agricultural education major and
is graduating from the University
of Georgia this coming May.
She will work at the Freshman
Academy under the supervision
of Trisha Lastly.
Kane is originally from
Columbia, Maryland, and
now lives in Athens where she
attends college, Kane grew up
in 4-H, competing in speaking
and consumer judging events,
and was once a state champion
for Maryland. When she moved
to Athens she joined Collegiate
FFA and served as treasurer and
of Sigma Alpha in 2008. Kane
is also a member of the UGA
women’s lacrosse team where
she serves as fundraising chair
and plays attack.
Kane decided early in her time
at UGA that agriculture educa
tion was the career path for her.
She has a passion for children
and teaching and has always
been interested in agriculture
since she started in 4-H. She is
hoping to start graduate school
next summer to study agricultural
leadership and start looking for
a teaching position in the spring
of 2011.
Kane said she is very excited
about teaching the students under
Lastly’s supervision at Madison
and getting to work with Cindy
Jones, Kay Farmer and Jerry
Taylor at the high school.
