Comer Farmer’s Market
Juiced Table Talk?
Power-hitting Table Talkians go deep
with ‘grand slam of fun and flavor’
By Susan Casey-Voytik
Correspondent
Last Saturday's crowded
Comer Farmers' Market was
a grand slam of fnn and flavor
as sharing the tables put Table
Talk into extra innings. Sales
continued as vendors were pack
ing it in.
New to the summer season
line up were dried apples slices
and sold-out Christmas limas.
Other fresh sell-outs included
“first-in-the-order figs,’’yellow
squash, zucchini, green
beans, butter beans, “on-deck
okra,’’cayenne peppers, canta
loupe and “clean-up hitter blue
berries.'' Newsflash! It's a boo-
hooing bye-bye to the Jubilee
Farms blueberries that have run
their seasonal course. “They’re
outta here!”
Prepared foods sported new
item sell-outs: ‘Triple Threat”
salsa, hitting the heat out of the
park; fig-applesauce loaves that
totally stole home; and cheese-
braid yeast bread caught in the
stands by fans. Sliding in to
sell out were lemon blueberry
walnut loaf, artisan bread and
all-American apple pie.
Wild card sell-outs in non
food items were hand-sewn,
antique calico, reversible table-
cloths by The Irish Twin. Purses
and bookmarks will be 50 per
cent off through Aug. 29. Look
for more price reductions on the
tables of your favorite vendors as
you scour the CFM for unique
holiday gift ideas.
Taking advantage of the
seventh inning stretch, Amy
Abrahamsen slid her chair under
the first willing participant.
Amy’s magic fingers, healing
hands and comfortable chair are
a temptation not many can resist.
She was the last vendor stand
ing, topping off the day with a
therapeutic massage.
Still on the bench is Dan
Harris of Booger Hill Bee
Company. Let’s all take our hats
off and rally for the return of the
world's best honey!
Providing the entertainment
between innings was the popular
David Court. Performing with
a mountain dulcimer, tenor
recorder and harmonica, David
is open to requests and other
spontaneous musicians. The
CFM extends an open invitation
to all folk musicians and singers
interested in sharing the stage
Saturday mornings.
The CFM always welcomes
new vendors to occupy the
tables for $5 each on a first
come, first serve basis from 8
a.m. to noon every Saturday
until December 6.
Farmers' “Family” Feedback:
Some people are unaware of the
strong family ties at the CFM.
Family members are eager
to attend the CFM with their
vendor loved ones to share the
experience. Last Saturday, Leslie
Chandler’s mother fit up the
tables with a beautiful smile as
she sold her daughter’s wares.
Pamela Campbell displayed her
beautiful vintage jeweled designs
and the apples of her eye, her
husband and son, the latter of
which is a talented folk artist.
Among the Christian accessories
and useful things on the table of
The Irish Twin, her 9-year-old
daughter sells her own hand-tied
flies for the fly fishing enthusi
ast. Jubilee Farms has long been
a family affair and an inspira
tional flagship vendor.
Connecting families is an
understood common denomi
nator for all those frequenting
the CFM. The importance and
tradition of honest old-fashioned
goodness and strong family
values are what makes the CFM
the pulse of the community. It
is something the whole family
can enjoy.
Bottom of the ninth and down
by two runs? Don’t sweat it: the
tables are loaded and waiting for
you to make a line drive to the
Comer Farmers’ Market where
the only thing called out is a sell
out! See you there!

RAMP BUILT FOR MCELROY
When Geneva McElroy’s arthritis became too severe for her to climb the steps to her
home, her son Buddy McElroy, along with her brother and nephew, Junior and Darwin
McGee, built a ramp to make her life a little easier. McElroy said she is “grateful for the
love that went into the construction of the ramp.” She is pictured with her son, Buddy.

Vice president, Gene Lackey called the meeting of
the Over Fifty Club to order on Aug. 12, 2009. There
were 14 people in attendance. Bill Coady presented
the devotion for the day. If you could send a one-
sentence message to God, would it be a request for
someone or something, or praise to acknowledge how
good God is and has been? Whichever you choose,
you should pray on a daily basis.
The club theme song was led by Charles Jay. ‘ ‘Happy
Birthday" was sung to Charles Jay and Debbie Coady.
There were no anniversaries in August. Bill Coady led
the healing prayers, especially for Betty Westbrook,
Bettye Bond, Ruth Pittman, Tommette Wilkes, Ms.
Massey and Demp, Kitty Payne, Sarah Turner and
Gene’s brother. The secretary/treasurer report was
read by Cheryl Leuthner. All were reminded that
our September meeting will be the annual auction.

and reused.

be on Saturday, Sept. 19. Tommy Dillard will drive the
