Man threatens
wife; will likely be
charged with stalking
Warrants for stalking will likely be issued for a man who
allegedly threatened his soon-to-be ex-wife by phone and text
message last week.
A woman on Hwy. 106 South told Deputy Michael Moore
that her husband, whom she is divorcing, has been calling
and texting her, making threats.
The man reportedly left a message on her phone, stating
that “if things didn't go his way in court, he was going to
get her where it hurts the most.” He stated it would be the
daycare she owns, according to the report. He also stated
he “would love to go to jail if he could @#$% her up.” The
deputy noted that the woman already has a restraining order
and that he will obtaining warrants for the husband's arrest.
In another incident, Deputy David Kidd was dispatched
last week to a call about an elderly woman in a wheelchair
in the road.
Kidd found the woman just north of Old Ila Road near Ila.
The woman told Kidd that she had been on her way to the
store in her power chair to call 911. The woman said she and
Shane Fredrick Yerdon, a man hired to look after her and her
husband, had gotten into an argument and he had knocked the
phone out of her hand as she attempted to call 911.
This incident stemmed from a previous one Deputy Kidd
noted. The deputy said he had spoken with the woman sev
eral days prior to this about two missing female juveniles,
one of whom is Yerdon’s girlfriend. The girls were located at
another residence that day visiting with Yerdon. Deputy Kidd
instructed the woman and Yerdon at that time to call him if
the girls made contact with Yerdon again. The girls had made
several calls to Yerdon on this day and he and woman began
to argue when she attempted to call 911. Yerdon had alleg
edly knocked the phone out of her hand, injuring it.
While Kidd was speaking with her, Yerdon came to their
location. He told Deputy Kidd that the woman was mad and
had been “acting up all day.” Yerdon said he took the phone
from her hand but that she hurt it because she was throwing
things at him. Yerdon was then arrested. While searching
him. Deputy Kidd found a small plastic baggie in a pocket
containing suspected marijuana.
Yerdon, 24, whose address listed as 166 Sherwood Circle,
Danielsville, was charged with one count of battery FVA,
interference with a 911 call and possession of marijuana.
In a similar incident, a woman on Stoy Smith Road told
Deputy Douglas Martin that a neighbor came over to ask to
borrow her vehicle. The woman said she smelled alcohol on
the man and refused to allow him to borrow it. An argument
ensued, with the man threatening bodily harm and using
profanity towards her in the presence of her 13-year old son.
As she attempted to call 911, the man reportedly knocked
the phone out of her hand and as he left the residence, he
slammed the door behind him, causing the blinds to fall.
Once outside, he reportedly continued to yell profanity and
make threats. The suspect had left by the time the deputy
arrived.
Deputy Martin advised the woman of the warrant process
to obtain a protective order.

Man charged with first-degree arson
A Danielsville man was
arrested for first-degree arson
last week after allegedly set
ting fire to a home he shared
with his girlfriend.
Derek Justin Steward, 33,
212 Sherwood Circle, was
charged with criminal dam
age to property in the second
degree, pedestrian under the
influence, arson in the first
degree and obstruction of a
firefighter.
According to the incident
report, Deputy Alan Stratton
was dispatched to the scene
where Steward’s girlfriend
told deputies on scene that he
set fire to the residence after
she left and went to a neigh
bor's house to hide following
an argument.
The woman stated that she
and Steward had been living
together for several months,
the last month with no elec
tricity, and that he physically
abuses her and had threatened
to “bum the house down” if
she ever left him.
A witness at the scene also
told Stratton that he saw
Steward at the residence ear
lier “yelling and acting crazy”
and that soon after he spotted
the fire and called 911.
Steward walked toward the
officers holding his hands
up, saying he was holding
his hands up because he was
being accused of burning the
house down. Stratton noted
that while being questioned,
Steward was uncooperative
and could not keep his bal
ance. His eyes were blood
shot and his speech slurred.
Stratton asked him if he had
been drinking and Steward
said he’d had one stiff drink
and couple of beers. When
asked to take a breath test,
Steward replied, “There is no
need for that. I’m drank.”
Firemen at the scene told
Deputy Stratton that Steward
was walking in the middle of
the road holding his hands
outward when they arrived
and had refused to let them
pass.
Steward was booked into the
Madison County Jail.
