be held on August 29 and organiz
ers are still seeking information

FFA alumni invites
new members
to Aug. 25 meeting
The Madison County Future
Farmers of America Alumni
would like to invite all past and
present members of the Future
Farmers of America to the first
meeting of the new school year,
which is scheduled for Aug. 25 at
7 p.m. at Madison County High
School in the agricultural room.
Members say those interested
did not have to be a member of
FFA when they attended school
to become an alumni member
“If you are interested in
agriculture and have a desire
to see our children grow up
and keep the farming business
alive, come and join us,” alumni
members said. “If you would be

State supt. looking for
student advisors
Georgia Superintendent of
Schools Kathy Cox is accepting
applications for her 2009-2010
Student Advisory Council.
The members of the Student
Advisory Council meet three
times during the school year with
Cox to discuss how decisions
made at the state level are
affecting students throughout
Georgia. Members are advisors
and act as liaisons between the
Department of Education and the
students of Georgia.
“For several years now, I've had
the pleasure of working closely
with students on my advisory
councils,” Cox said in a statement.
“I listen closely to the advice
and concerns of these students
and share that information with
others as we make statewide
policy decisions."
All students in grades 9-12 are
eligible to apply. Meeting dates
are: November 9, 2009; January
25, 2010; and March 8, 2010
(dates are subject to change.)
Applicants should be able to
attend all three meetings.
To be eligible for the council,
applications must be received by
Sept. 30.

Freshman Academy FFA holds
year kickoff meeting
ice cream.
The Madison County Freshman
Academy FFA chapters held an
after school ice cream/year kick
off meeting Aug. 20 to encourage
students to join FFA, get involved
with FFA and help students learn
the many different opportunities
available to them throughout the
school and next summer.
More than 40 students from
the Madison County Freshman
Academy FFA chapter stayed
after school to participate in the
first afterschool meeting of the
year. The Freshman Academy offi
cers planed and organized several
fun games for their members to
play, including an egg race, dolly
races and balloon popping war.
After the games the students were
served by the Freshman Academy
officer team their favorite flavor of
ice cream and toppings. The 2009
- 2010 calendars, August news
letters and Career Development
Event information were handed
out during the meeting as well as
some door prizes.
Every month of this school
year the Freshman Academy FFA
chapter will hold in-school club
day meetings and afterschool
night meetings for their mem
bers. The first club day meet
ing is Friday, Sept. 18, during
the advisement period. Other
afterschool meetings include a
FFA softball game. Fall Festival/
Halloween meeting, FFA football
game, Christmas party, basketball

ing trip, fishing tournament, bow
shoot, volleyball game and end-
of-the-year celebration.

with in the FFA,” Zack Tankersley

Qualifying will begin on Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. and will close
on Thursday, September 3, 2009 at 4:30 p.m. at the Carlton City Hall/Fire Hall
from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on September 1, 2009; September 2, 2009; and
September 3, 2009. Section 21-2-131(a)(l)(A) of the State of Georgia Municipal
Election Code requires a qualification fee of $48.75 for mayoral candidates and
$32.50 for councilmember candidates.

QUALIFYING NOTICE
For The November 2009 Election
The City of Danielsville will hold a Municipal
Election on Tuesday, November 3, 2009. The
following offices are scheduled for election:

terms from January 1, 2010 to December 31, 2011:
Mayor - Incumbent: Walter Glenn Cross
Council Member - Seat 1 - Incumbent: Philip Croya
Council Member - Seat 1 - Incumbent: Barbara Dove
Qualifying will begin Monday, August 31, 2009 and
end on Friday, September 4, 2009 between the hours
of 8:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Those wishing to qualify
may do so during this time period at Danielsville
City Hall. Qualifying fee for Mayor is $82.19; for
Council Members $56.41.
The State of Georgia Municipal Election Code sets
the mandatory qualifying dates, times, and fees. The
deadline to register to vote in the November 2009
election is October 5, 2009. You may register to vote
at the Madison County Registrar’s office in the
Madison County Government Complex in
Danielsville or pick up a registration form at
Danielsville City Hall.

Breast cancer survivors Anne Hansen and Gaylene Ward began
the "In Their Shoes" 13.1 mile one-day walk to recognize those
who have lived with cancer and to raise funds for the Loran Smith
Center for Cancer Support, a facility that was integral to their
