Madison County swine show team
competes at Jackson Co. Jackpot Show
The Madison County 4H and FFA
swine show team recently competed
at the first swine show of the sea
son at Jackson County High School
Agriculture Center Sept. 5.
The Jackson County Jackpot
Show is a yearly show open for FFA
and 4H members in the surrounding
counties. Sixteen Madison County
students competed.
The show began with senior
showmanship. Competing were
Madison County High School FFA
members Rebeccah Fields, Zack
Taylor (who placed 3rd in the senior
showmanship class), Jacob Collins,
Alex McLaughlin, Chelsea Kellum
and Taylor Bruce.
Junior showmanship included Jeb
Adams, Madison County Freshman
Academy FFA members Kevin
Jones (placing 3rd in the class),
Zack Tankersley (placing second
in the class) and Madison County
Middle School FFA member Austin
Saye.

FFA members competing in inter
mediate showmanship included
Travis Tankersley, McKenzie
Kellum, Makayla Kellum and
Hunter Anderson (placing third in
the class).
The last class of showmanship
was tire cloverleaf showmanship
class. This class included pre-K,
kindergarten, first grade, second
grade and third grade 4H mem
bers. Competing in this class were
Blake Taylor (won the showman
ship class), Eli Jones and Brooke
Fleming.
After the showmanship class
es the weight classes were held.
Madison County students had 32
pigs competing in tire weight class
es. This made up half of the pigs
competing at the Jackson County
Jackpot Show. The weights of the
pigs range from 142 to 299 lbs. In
the first class, MCMS FFA member,
Travis Tankersley, placed first with
his market gilt, while MCHS FFA
member Rebeccah Fields placed
third. In class 2, Tankersley placed
third. In tire third class, Blake Taylor,
a Madison County 4-H"er, placed
fourth, hr class 4, Alex McLaughlin,
a MCHS FFA member, placed
fourth with her 200-lb. market gilt.
Brooke Fleming placed first in
weight class 5 with her 205-lb. mar
ket gilt, which also won “reserve
champion” in the show. Also in
class 5, Jacob Collins, a MCHS
FFA member, won fourth. In class
7, Hunter Anderson, a MCMS FFA
member, placed fifth; Kevin Jones
Freshman Academy FFA member,
placed fourth; and Blake Taylor,
a Madison County 4Her, placed
second with his 230-lb. market hog.
Class 8 awarded Hunter Anderson,
a MCMS FFA member, second
place, and Class 9 was won by
MCHS FFA member, Chelsea
Kellum with her 296-lb. market bar-
row. Center Region agriculture edu
cation area animal science teacher
Ricky Wheeler judged this show.
Madison County swine show
team members will compete at
a local show at the fair Sept. 29.
Some members will also travel to
tire Banks County show and then
to the Georgia Junior National Fair
in Perry.

August 29, over 1500 stalwart
runners met at Athens Christian
School for the 6th running of the
Northeast Georgia (All-Classification)
Cross-Country Championships.
ACS sophomore, Destiny Jenkins,
won the Girls Championship with a
time of 18 min. & 34 sec. setting new
course and meet records held
previously by ACS’ premier runner,
Whitney Bishoff, now running at
Anderson (S.C.) College, where she
was awarded a cross-country
scholarship. Our ACS Middle School
girls coached by Cayla Redish won
their division.
The meet was directed by veteran
ACS track and cross-country coach,
Tim Cummings, who was quoted as
saying, “This meet just gets larger
every year.”
