ILA - Nellie Adams, 93, died
Sunday, September 13, 2009.
A native of Jackson County,
she was the daughter of the late
John and Ida Collins Pace. She
was a longtime resident of this
area and was a member of First
Baptist Church of Athens. Mrs.
Adams was preceded in death by
her husband, Morgan Adams; and
a son, Carlton Adams.
Survivors include a daughter
and son-in-law, Joyce and Bill
Fleeman, Ila; brother and sis-
ter-in-law, Earl and June Pace,
Macon; sister and brother-in-law,
Edna and Johnnie Huey, Bowdon;
grandchildren, David and Vicky
Adams, Rachel Fleeman, John

Bowles, 56, died Tuesday,

Northeast Georgia Medical Center
in Gainesville.
Born in Jackson County on
March 22, 1953, he was the son
of the late Arthur and Retha Mae
Hicks Bowles. He was a truck
driver and member of the Liberty
Church. Mr. Bowles was preced
ed in death by a brother, Ricky
Bowles; and sisters, Betty Jean
Dorsey and Linda Bowles.
Survivors include his
wife, Beverly Bonds Bowles,
Commerce; son, Ramey Bowles,
Commerce; daughter, Angela
Patton, Hartwell; brothers, Corbin
Bowles and John Bowles, both
of Commerce, Ralph Bowles,
Pennsylvania; sister, Tammy

Willie Mae Seay Bruce. He was a

Bruce was preceded in death by a
daughter, Donna Carol.

Born April 11, 1923, in
Lexington, S.C., she was the
daughter of the late Maxey M.
Hook and Virginia Shumpert
Hook Spires. Mrs. Fields was
preceded in death by a daugh
ter, Gwendolyn; her husband, the
Rev. Jackson L. Fields; sister,
Margaret Hook Harwell; and
brother, Grover C. Hook. She was
of the Baptist denomination and
was a member of Central Baptist
Church. She and her husband.
Rev. Jackson L. Fields, a Baptist
minister, together served several
churches in the Northeast Georgia
area.
Survivors include a son. Dr.
Steven Fields, Hull; daughter and
son-in-law, Vickie Fields and Bill
Horton, Athens; grandchildren,
Kathy Fields, Letitia (Kevin)
Hardeman, Billy Horton, Marcia
(Michael) Nelms and Jenni
Horton; a great-granddaughter.

after 30 years as a supervisor with
Wayne Poultry Company and
was a member of the Diamond
Hill Baptist Church. Mrs. Hicks
was preceded in death by a son,
Rodger "Buggy” Hicks; and a
brother. Sonny Buffington.

and Pipefitters Local 72 from
1965 - 1983. He was a member
of the Gordon’s Chapel United
Methodist Church. Mr. Pittman
was preceded in death by his
wife, Sylvine Adams Pittman; a
son, Jeffery Alan Pittman; sisters,
Estelle Adams, Cleo Adams, Clara
Barnett, and Onie Burroughs;

home to many foster children.
She loved to bake cakes.

the Whitfield Funeral Home,

Roy Lee Mitchell and Kenneth
McEntire officiating. Burial was
in the Crossroads Baptist Church
Cemetery.
Whitfield Funeral Home, South
Chapel, Baldwin, was in charge
of arrangements.

Katie Watson
JEFFERSON - Katie Lee
Smith Watson, 86, formerly of
Buford, died Tuesday, September
8, 2009.
Born on August 26, 1923,
in Forsyth County, she was the
daughter of the late Handsel and
Carra Smith. She was a 1941
graduate of Sugar Hill High
School and was retired from
Bona Allen Company in Buford.
She was a longtime member of
First Baptist Church of Sugar
Hill. Mrs. Watson was preceded
in death by a brother, Everett
Smith; stepson. Tommy Watson;
son-in-law, Mickey Thompson;
and great-granddaughter, Katie
Mosley.
Survivors include her hus
band of 44 years, Cline Watson,
Jefferson; a daughter, Diane
Thompson, Pendergrass; son
and daughter-in-law. Buddy and
Myrtle Johnson, Hoschton; step
children, Johnny and Michelle
Watson and Debra Watson, all of
Hoschton; grandchildren, Nancy
and Tracy Beckett, Michael and
Rhonda Thompson, Tami and
Chris House, Gina Johnson, Jill
and Alain Zemmour, and Ashley
Watson; 11 great-grandchildren;
and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held
Friday, September 11, in the cha
pel of Flanigan Funeral Home
with the Revs. Charles Pirkle and
Henry Webb officiating. Burial
was in Sugar Hill Cemetery.

ments.
