•Mount Hermon Presbyterian
Church of Ila will host its twelfth-
annual Kirkin’ O’ the Tartan and
homecoming service Sunday,
Sept. 27, beginning at 11 a.m.
“At Mt. Hermon, the Kirkin’ is
not only an opportunity to recog
nize the Scottish heritage of the
Presbyterian church in America,
but is also a a time to embrace the
larger family to which we belong
and extend a traditional bless
ing on the community, our civic
leaders and our nation,” church
leaders said. The first service of
its kind was held in Washington’s
New York Avenue Presbyterian
Church in 1941, whose minister
at that time was the celebrated
Dr. Peter Marshall, Chaplain of
the U.S. Senate, leaders stated.
This buoyant and colorful ser
vice will feature Henry and Fran
Frantz, members of the Atlanta
Pipe Band on bagpipe and drum,
and Trade Brown, member of
the Banish Misfortune on Celtic
harp. “Visitors are most wel
come," church leaders said.
•The Women’s Enrichment
Ministry of the Sarepta Baptist
Association will host "It’s About
Time!” Sept. 26, 6-8:30 p.m. The
event will be held in the Family
Life Center of Union Baptist
Church, 2900 Hwy. 106 S„ Hull,
Georgia. Dinner will be served
before the program begins, orga
nizers said. Michelle Sterling,
founder of Real Life Women’s
Ministry, will be guest speaker.
Praise and worship will be led
by "Revealed" from Hebron
Baptist Church, of Dacula. This
event is for women of all ages
and denominations. The cost is

•Pleasant Grove Baptist
Church will hold its home
coming service Sunday, Oct. 4.
Sunday School starts at 9:45 a.m.

•Hannah’s Creek Baptist
Chinch will hold a “grave deco
ration day" Sunday, Oct. 4, begin
ning at 10 a.m. There will be a
covered dish meal, a time to remi
nisce and special singing. Church
members say they would particu
larly like to invite family mem
bers of those buried in the church
cemetery, but all are invited to
share this special service. Ice and
tea will be provided by the church
for the midday meal. Hannah’s
Creek Church is located on
Hannah’s Creek Church Road off
Wildcat Bridge Road in northern
Madison County. On Saturday,
Oct. 3, new flowers will be placed
on graves that don’t have family
members to perform this service,

•Colbert United Methodist
Church, located behind First
Madison Bank, will have a yard
sale Oct. 3 from 8 a.m.-l p.m. in
front of the church’s Family Life
Center. "We will have some of
our popular Bazaar items as well
- flavorings, knives, cards, etc.,”
church leaders said. The church
youth will be selling hot dogs
and other goodies. "Mark your
calendar and come find some
great deals,” church leaders said.
In case of rain, the sale will be
rescheduled for Oct. 10. Church
members are also working on
a church cookbook, which will
contain a history of the church
and some information about the
city of Colbert. The cookbook
will include a DVD of pictures
of Colbert, as well as present
and past members. The cookbook
will be on sale in October. For

•Colbert First Baptist Church
will host a Ladies Night Out in
the church’s family life center
Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 6:30 p.m.
The speaker will be best-selling
southern author and syndicated
columnist Ronda Rich. "God,
Grits and Grace ... Ronda Rich
knows all three," church leaders
said.
Rich has been featured in many
newspapers as well as dozens of
television shows as a master sto
ryteller. “Please come join Ronda
at Colbert First Baptist Church
as she tells you stories of happi
ness and heartaches, friends and
family, and a faith that’s strong
enough to handle anything that
life throws your way," church
leaders said. The cost is $20,
which includes food, fun and fel
lowship, church leaders said. Call

•Mt. Zion Church will have
its fourth annual Women’s
Conference Monday, Oct. 26,
beginning at 7 p.m. The fea
tured speaker will be Karen Peck
Gooch. Church leaders say regis
ter early since seating is limited.
Pre-registration is $10 per person,
or $15 at the door. There is one
free registration for groups of 10
or more, church leaders said and
each registrant will receive a gift
bag. There will be drawings for
various door prizes (you must
be present to win). OneWay of
Athens will perform praise and
worship.

•The Way Church is sponsor
ing an outdoor gospel singing and
chickenque Saturday, Sept. 26,
from 4-7 p.m. The singing will
be held outdoors in the church
parking lot.
Featured groups for the sing
ing will include: Fourgiven and
Lazarus Unwound, along with
several local groups. Fourgiven
is a well-known Southern Gospel
group from Madison County.
Lazarus Unwound is from Elbert
County and they offer a wide
range of styles from Southern
Gospel to rock and blues style
Christian music. "This is a love
offering singing and no admis
sion will be charged,” church
leaders said. “Everyone is invited
to bring their lawn chairs." In case
of rain, the singing will be held in
the church sanctuary. Barbecue
chicken plates will be available
for dine-in or take-out from 4-7
p.m. Plates will include a chicken
half, coleslaw, applesauce, chips,
bread and dessert. Advance tick
ets are $7 per plate. For more

John Halsey, who will explain the
Faith Promise System, according
to church leaders. Other speakers
are from Cambodia, South Africa
and Scotland. An international
“potluck” dinner will follow the
morning service on Oct. 4.
