AUBURN - Hazel
Bradley, 90, died Friday,
September 18, 2009.
A native of Barrow
County, she was the daugh
ter of the late Boss and
Maitha Kennedy Peppers.
She was a retired hair
dresser and was a mem
ber of the Midway United
Methodist Church. Mrs.
Bradley was preceded in
death by her husband, E.M.
“Brad” Bradley, Jr.; a sister,
Aide 11 Edwards; and broth
er, Branson Peppers.
Survivors include a
daughter, Jackie Bradley
Foley, Winder; grand
children, Christa (Rob)
Fellas, Manassas, Va., and
Michael (Adrienne) Foley,
Winder; five great-grand
children; sisters, Willie Mae
Brady, Tucker, and FaRue
Harbin, Canton; brothers,
Jack Peppers and Eugene
Peppers, both of Auburn;
friend, Darlene Mastin,

He was the son of the late
Marion Clint and Florence
Elizabeth Powell Childers.
He was a
retired truck
driver, was
of the Baptist

the United States Army.
Mr. Childers was preceded
in death by a sister, Bell
Reed.

in Fexington, S.C., she
was the daughter of the
late Maxey M. Hook and
Virginia Shumpert Hook
Spires. Mrs. Fields was
preceded in death by a
daughter, Gwendolyn; her
husband, the Rev. Jackson
F. Fields; sister, Margaret
Hook Harwell; and brother,
Grover C. Hook. She was
of the Baptist denomina
tion and was a member of
Central Baptist Church.
She and her husband, Rev.
Jackson F. Fields, a Baptist
minister, together served
several churches in the
Northeast Georgia area.
Survivors include a son,
Dr. Steven Fields, Hull;
daughter and son-in-law,
Vickie Fields and Bill
Horton, Athens; grandchil
dren, Kathy Fields, Fetitia

‘Waddy’Irwin
STATHAM - George
“Waddy” Washington
Irwin, 87, died Tuesday,
September 22, 2009.
Born in Hancock County,
he was the
son of the
late John and
Molly Wall
Irwin. He was retired from
General Motors -Doraville
Plant. He was a corporal in
the United States Army Air
Corp during World War - II,
was with the military police,
worked with B29 bombers,
and served in India and
China. Mr. Irwin was pre
ceded in death by his wife,
Sarah J. Ware Irwin; and a
son, Van Irwin.
Survivors include a son
and daughter-in-law, Tony
and Judy Irwin, Braselton;
five grandchildren; and
seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were
held Thursday, September
24, in the Smith Memory
Chapel with Chaplain

ing. Burial was in Statham
City Cemetery.

Steve Lee
NICHOLSON - Steven
Randall Lee, 52, went home
to be with his Lord and
Savior Jesus Christ, Sunday,
September 20, 2009.
Steve fought a brave, life
long battle against cystic
fibrosis. Steve dreamed of
having a double lung trans
plant with hopes of continu
ing his life on earth after his
own lungs were destroyed
by this disease. He died at
UNC Hospital, Chapel Hill,
N.C. following complica
tions from the transplant he
received on June 6, 2009.
The last four months of his
life were spent in the hospi
tal intensive care unit, but
were filled with cherished
moments and love. Sharon,
his wife of 32 years, was
at his side. Matthew, the
son he adored, was nearby.
He joined his sister Stacey,
who lost her battle to CF at
age three.
In addition to his wife
and son, Steve is survived
by his parents, Robert and
Betty Lee of Watkinsville;
his enormous and loving
Merrill Lynch family; many
relatives and friends; and
his much loved and faithful
canine companions Ginger,
Nina, Daisy and Cleo.
Funeral services will be
held Saturday, September
26, at 2 p.m. at Pleasant
Grove Baptist Church,
Neese-Diamond Hill Rd.,
Hull. The church is locat
ed in Neese off Hwy. 106.
Burial will be in the church
cemetery.

WINDER - Charles W.
Maddox, 70, died Tuesday,
September 22, 2009.
Born in St. Clair County,
Ala., he was the son of
the late Franklin K. and
Kathryn Epps Maddox. He
was a retired civil engineer
with the Department of
Transportation, a member of
the First Christian Church,
and a 15 year member of
the Winder Lions Club. He
had served as a Sunday
school teacher, Chairman
of the Board, a deacon, an
elder, trustee, and a for
mer Boy Scout leader. He
served as National Director
of Dixie Youth Baseball
for 26 years, and was part
of Winder Dixie Youth for
over 42 years. Mr. Maddox
was preceded in death by a
grandson, Rick Oxley.
Survivors include his wife,
Sandra Patton Maddox,
Winder; sons and daugh-
ters-in-law, Wendel and
Jenny Maddox, Winder, and
Bryan and Bobbi Maddox,
Monticello; daughter
and son-in-law, Susan
