Rotary builds ramp for Bobby Noell
The Rotary Club of Madison County con
structed a 26-foot handicapped ramp
Thursday for Bobby Noell, who lives at 67
Amberly Drive in Hull. Noell is 66 years old,
has lived in Madison County for most of his
life and has resided at his present location the
last 15 years. Eleven years ago, while driving
a dump truck for Harris Trucking Company,
he was in an accident that broke his back. He
continued to drive for W.E. Sales for several
years, until his back required a second opera
tion that put him on a walker and a scooter.
He requested a ramp from Rotary in order
to get out and in on his scooter and walk
er. Workers on the ramp included Bob Padilla,
Alton Rowe, Ed Brown, Jerry Bond, Johnny
Bond Erwin Hardeman, Bob Anderson, Jeff
Dillard, James Adams, Jack Chandler, Jerry
Coutant, Wesley Chandler, Artry Bishop, Jim
Jeffer, Roy Gandy and Dick Jordan.
What’s happening
‘Banned Books
Week’ continues
The Madison County is
recognizing “Banned Books Week’’
through Oct. 3 with a display
of “Censorship in Schools and
Libraries.’’
This display has been in use
since 1984 and began circulation
in the New York Public Library.
The new edition (2008-09) has
been developed to add significant
censorship incidents and patterns,
which have occurred throughout the
United States.
The exhibit begins with the
foundations of freedom of speech
and freedom of the press that were
established in the First Amendment
to the United States Constitution.
Then definitions of censor and
censorship are given, which have
been extracted from 19 th and 20 th
century dictionaries. Following
this, in chronological order, appear
descriptions of selected incidents of
censorship that have occurred in the
United States during the past 100
years. The exhibit concludes with
quotations on censorship, results of
a censorship survey, and the Library
Bill of Rights.
The exhibit is open to the public
during library hours. The library
is located at 1315 Hwy. 98 W in
Danielsville, next to the Recreation
Department. For more information,
call 706-795-5597.

Pet of the week
Sheba is a two-year-old Lab mix up for adoption,
who “has eyes that seem to talk to you,” Madison
Oglethorpe Animal Shelter workers say. She is said
to be "wonderful” with other animals of all sizes and
varieties and “adores playing with children.”
Sheba was brought to the shelter by animal control
in June as a stray. MOAS hopes to pair Sheba with
the right person so “they will see just how submissive
and how precious of a personality this little doll has,”
organizers said.
Sheba is already spayed and ready for adoption. The
adoption fee is $45, which includes all age appropri
ate vaccines and de-worming.
