Farmers’ market
Apples that smell like holidays
Leslie Chandler
Correspondent
It was a cool morning to welcome Comer
Farmers’ Market vendors and customers. We
unpacked our goods and had a nice time visiting.
Jubilee Partners had many fresh greens to
offer. The generous rains of late have greened up
many a garden. Sweet peppers are still in abun
dance and are getting plump on all the rain.
The banana bread sold well to those who
didn’t want pecans in it. Pecan pies were a hit.
There were even repeat customers! New this
week were spiced apples which nearly sold out.
They smell like the holidays. Great for gifts.
Kathryn Miller’s beeswax candles are always a
charming option. They fit well into gift baskets!
Dan Harris brought his famous honey to the
delight of some visitors from Ohio. It turns out
these visiting customers were commercial bee
keepers and beeswax candle makers. Very nice
people. We welcome all who want to come, see,
learn or teach.
Speaking of teaching, master gardeners are
welcome to come and answer questions about
the ever-befuddling fall planting season. I have
questions myself. Bulbs? Shrubs? Annuals?
Trees? Where, when and how?
We have a frequent vendor who is a certified
arborist. Susan Russell has provided the market
with fresh flowers, herbs and beautifully painted
gourd birdhouses. Such talent on many levels!
Please keep in mind your friends, neighbors
and others in the community who might need
help with food. We hold a weekly food drive
for ACTION of Madison County. Check your
pantry for extras. Every little bit helps. They
even accept frozen venison if processed in an
inspected facility. Coolers can be made available
for transport. Contact Leslie Chandler for more
information.
The holidays are right around the comer and
the Comer Farmers’ Market is a great place to
pick up locally produced goods for gifts for
friends and family. We will be open through
November and the day of the Comer Christmas
Parade,
We welcome anyone who wants to buy or sell
locally produced goods. Please join us. Contact
Chandler for more information at 706-224-2197.
Thanks to all of our dedicated and regular cus
tomers !
