Woman charged with pedestrian under the influence
A Commerce woman was
arrested last week after a deputy
spotted her walking in the road
way on Commerce-Neese Road.
Rebecca Lynn Blevins. 39,
450 Minish Road, was charged
with one count of pedestrian
under the influence.
According to the incident
report, deputy Joshua Fowler
was on patrol when he noticed
a woman walking in the road
"unsteady on her feet." While
talking with her, he noticed that
she appeared to be under the
influence of some type of drug
or alcohol. When he asked her,
she reportedly stated that she had
been "smoking crack."
She was transported to the
Madison County Jail.
Another woman was arrested
for pedestrian under the influ
ence after deputies found her
and two companions sitting
under a pavilion at the Madison
County Recreation Department
last Tuesday night. Captain Joe
Rickman noted in his report
that they were concerned since
there has been a rash of vending
machine thefts recently.
The deputies detected a strong
odor of alcohol and that the sub
jects were conducting themselves
in a "very nervous fashion.”
After being asked for their
identification, Shelton allegedly
began walking away from offi
cers saying she had to urinate.
After being told to stop, she
began running, but was appre
hended after a short foot chase.
A check of her identity revealed
that she also had an outstanding
warrant on aggravated assault
charges in Oglethorpe County.
She was taken to the Madison
County jail for booking.
Others arrested by law enforce
ment officials in the county last
week included:
•Joshua Antwon Daniel, 17,
128 Freeman Circle, Colbert,
was charged with disrupting
public school after he was found
by a sheriffs deputy hiding in a
bathroom stall at the high school.
School officials were concerned
that the teen had skipped school
and that he had drugs on his
person.
•Julie Amanda Shelton, 33, 25
Backwoods Trail, Comer, public
drunkenness and obstruction of
an officer.
•Antonio Jesus Sigala, 24,
1530 Common Drive, Elberton,
failure to appear.
•Kristi Lea Watson, 38, 97
Watson Road, Danielsville, five
counts of forgery in the first
degree.
•Antioco Cruz Martinez, 69,
367 Madison Boulevard, Colbert,
driving without a license and
speeding.
•Reba Darlene McDaris, 31,21
Sherwood Drive, Danielsville,
hold for Clarke County.
•Julio Naubarrette Meyer, 30,
500 Cathwood Drive, Athens,
driving while license with
drawn.
•Weslin Lamar OKelley,
17, 230 Colbert School Road,
Colbert, reckless driving, too fast
for conditions, failure to drive
within a single lane, driving
in violation of limited license,
expired vehicle tag or decal, no
insurance, driving while tag is
suspended and leaving the scene

Car damaged on Buford Carey Road
A woman on Buford Carey
Road reported that her vehicle had
been damaged.
Deputy Chris Guest responded
to the scene, where he found the
four-door Ford Escort had had
both front tires slashed and the
front windshield completely shat
tered. She also reported her keys
missing. The victim stated that
she believes her ex-boyffiend is
responsible for the damage.
The incident remains under
investigation.
In another incident, an Ila resi
dent turned in a wallet contain
ing a driver’s license, credit cards
and $98 in cash to the Madison
County Sheriff's office. The
owner, a Clarkesville man, was
notified about his missing wallet
and picked it up at the sheriff’s
office.

•Driving without a license was
reported on Garnett Ward Road.
•Theft by taking on Madison
Street in Colbert.
•Driving while license sus
pended was reported on Norwood
Road at Amberly Drive.
•Obstruction of officers was
reported on Hwy. 98 West.
•Two incidents of theft by taking
was reported on Hwy. 72 West.
•No proof of insurance was
reported on Hwy. 98 at Crawford
W. Long Street.
•Forgery in the second degree
was reported on Hwy. 29 South
near Hull.
•Theft of services was reported
on Pine Valley Farm Road.
•Mailboxes were damaged
or destroyed on Hudson Rivers
Church Road.
•Theft by taking was reported
on Hwy. 72 near Colbert.
•Driving without a license was
reported on Hwy. 29 South near
Hull.

Fire destroys home
A fire destroyed the home of Robert Austin at 2246 Adams
Clarke Road around 9:30 Friday morning. Austin and two
other residents of the home escaped without injury. Austin
said the fire started at an electrical outlet in a bedroom. Ila,
Neese-Sanford and Pocataligo Fire Departments responded
to the blaze. Anyone interested in helping out Austin and
his family can contact Regina Sockman, emergency services
director for the East Georgia Chapter of the American Red
Cross, at 706-353-1645.
Norcross man sentenced
on meth charge
A Norcross man was sentenced to 10 years probation in
Madison County Superior Court on a methamphetamine
charge.
Macario G. Villegas, 39, was also fined $2,025 for posses
sion of methamphetamine with intent to distribute (reduced
from trafficking in methamphetamine).
Other actions filed recently in the office of the Clerk of
Superior Court of Madison County include:
•Jeffery Scott Goss, 44, Danielsville, was sentenced to five
years probation and fined $320 for theft by receiving stolen
property. A charge of theft by deception was dismissed.
•Daniel Wayne Thornton, 35, Hull, was sentenced to
five years probation and fined $1,150 for possession of
hydrocodone. A charge of drugs in original container was
dismissed.
•Ronald Cox, 54, Hull, was sentenced to three years pro
bation and fined $697 for violation of Georgia's Controlled
Substance Act (VGCSA) — possession of cocaine.
•Marcus L. Hathcock, 46, Colbert, was sentenced to four
years probation for possession of a schedule II controlled
substance and one year probation for marijuana — less than
an ounce. He was also fined $675.

GENERAL ELECTION RUN-OFF NOTICE
City of Colbert
Notice is hereby given that, in accordance
with O.C.G.A. 21-2-501 (c), a General Election Run-off
shall be held in the City of Colbert for the Council
Person to succeed Chris Peck due to a lack of any of
the three candidates receiving a majority of the votes
cast for this seat in the November 3rd election. The
General Election Run-off will be held on December 1,
2009. The following candidates received the highest
number of votes in order to be included in the run-off.

Only those persons registered to vote by October 5,
2009, shall be entitled to vote in the run-off.
Early and advance voting will begin November 9,
2009 and end November 25, 2009 in the Colbert City

Election Day, December 1,2009 the polls will be open
from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the same location.
