Comer Star Students (K-2)
Comer Elementary School has announced its October “STAR
Students of the Month.” These students were chosen by teach
ers and staff for always working together, taking responsibil
ity, striving to do their best, and respecting themselves and
others. Kindergaretn through second grade students recog
nized for "Striving to do their best" included (front) Jaden
Hood, Jake Carey, Lindy Coile, Evy Glenn, Jubilee Say, (back)
Derek Tran, Andrew Porterfield, Keia Cooper, Kale Anderson
and Cassie Beam.
Comer Star Students (3-5)
Comer Elementary School has announced its STAR students
of the month for October. These students always "Strive to
do their Best." These third, fourth and fifth graders were
chosen by their teachers for their outstanding performance
(front) Nathan Burroughs, Xavier King, Otto Burrows,
Baylee Roberts, (back) Nathan Porterfield, Erica Power,
Mary Sullivan, Hannah Bruce and Savanna Hill.
Attend leadership workshop
at national convention
Members of the Madison County Freshman Academy
FFA chapter and MCHS FFA chapter attended the
National FFA Convention held in Indianapolis, Indiana.
These FFA members attended one of the leadership
workshops while at the National FFA Convention.

Colbert Students of
the Month (K-2)
Colbert Elementary School has announced its August stu
dents of the month. Students were chosen by their teachers
and other staff members based on outstanding or improved
academics as well as outstanding or improved behavior.
This year, students who have been selected for Student of

Sergeant visits Learning Train
Athens-Clarke County Police Department Sergeant Tony
Kincaid, the father of student Mary Kincaid at the Learning
Train Academy in Colbert, recently visited the Learning
Train and explained his duties. Students participated in
a skit that taught the importance of staying with parents
when they are out in town. They also learned about the
importance of bicycle helmets, seatbelts and car seats.
Collins inducted into Alpha Tau

Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Athens Technical College
FFA shows off lawn mower skills
The FFA Area II middle school lawn mower opera
tions career development event was held Nov. 4 at
Banks County High School. For this competition, FFA
members must demonstrate warm-up procedures,
proper operation of a lawn mower through a speci
fied course, complete a written exam, and use lawn
mower operator manuals to finish problem solving
questions. Madison County Middle FFA member AJ
Bond placed second and will move on to the state
competition in February.

Invitation To Bid
Madison County Board of Education
The Madison County Board of Education invites you to participate in a bid
for the removal, disposal and replacement of roofing at lla Elementary
School, 150 Sewell Mill Road, lla, GA 30647. Detailed bid specifications can
be found on the school system’s website.
A mandatory pre-bid meeting will be held at 2 p.m., December 1, 2009 at lla
Elementary School.
All questions must be submitted in writing to Bonnie Knight, Assistant
Superintendent of Business Operations, by 1 p.m. December 1, 2009 at fax
number 706-795-5104 or email bknight@madison.k12.ga.us.
Responses to this invitation for bid will be opened on December 15, 2009 at
2 p.m. at the Business Operations offices, 55 Mary Ellen Court, Danielsville,
GA. Vendors are advised that all bids should be delivered to the Business
Operations department no later than 1:30 p.m. December 15, 2009. Bids
received after this date and time will not be considered.
