and Martha Adams Nix.
She was a homemaker and
a member of the Lebanon
United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Aaron was preceded
in death by her husband,
William Aaron.
Survivors include a son,

daughter, Jerrie Courson,
Statham; sister, Evelyn
Kirkman, Jefferson; broth
er, Danny Nix, Conyers;
granddaughter, Celena

St. Mary’s Hospice House
in Athens.
Born October 20, 1951,
in Commerce, he was the
son of the late Gartrell
and Margaret Seagraves
Andrews. He was a grad
uate of Commerce High
School and of Ouachita
Baptist University in
Arkadelphia, Ark. He was
a sales representative for
Fleming Food Service,
where he won the mil
lion dollar sales record
for three years in a row.
He was a member of the
Allens United Methodist
Church.
Survivors include his
wife Barbara Milford
Smith Andrews; daughters
and sons-in-law. Rebecca
and Jason Brunton,
Pflugerville, Texas, Pam
Moore, Comer, Fisa and
Allison Alexander, Sandy
Cross, Dannah and Gene
Hagerty, Jefferson; grand

Born on May 5, 1936,
in Walton County, he
was the son of the late
Clarence Enos and Felia
Blankenship Brock. He
was retired from the tex
tile manufacturing busi
ness.
Survivors include
his wife, Finda Wilkes,
Commerce; a son, Wayne
Brock, Statham; daughter,
Denise Prather, Statham;
stepdaughters, Gail
Blackstock, Olive Branch,
Miss., and Rachael Davis,
Gainesville; sisters, Grace
Hayes and Geneva Reed,
both of Winder; seven
grandchildren; seven
great-grandchildren, and
special babies, Buddy and
Suzie and the rest.
Funeral services were
held Saturday, November
28, at the Bethany United
Methodist Church with
the Rev. Mike McFemore
officiating. Burial was in
the church cemetery.

County, she was the
daughter of Willie Clyde
and Louise Lindsey Autry.
She was employed with
First American Bank for
several years and was a
member of Union Baptist
Church. Mrs. Brooks was
preceded in death by her
husband, James L. Brooks;
and a grandchild, Amanda
K. Brooks.

Seaborn Carlan
BALDWIN - Henry
Seaborn Carlan, 91,
of the Hollingsworth
Community, died Sunday,
November 29, 2009.
Born in Banks County
on December 13, 1917,
he was the son of the
late Henry and Ola Pruitt
Carlan of Banks County.
Mr. Carlan was preced
ed in death by brothers,
Fletcher Carlan, Felton
Carlan, Farris Carlan,
Marvin Carlan; and sis
ters, Margaret Carlan
Free, Nettie Mae Carlan
Collins, and Grace Carlan
Lewallen. He was a mem
ber of the First Baptist
Church of Cornelia, was
a member of the Southern
Baptist Men’s Sunday
School Class, and was a
Sunday School greeter at
his church. Mr. Carlan was
a York Rite and Scottish
Rite Mason, a Shriner
of the Yaarab Temple in
Atlanta, a member of
Hollingsworth Lodge No.
355 F & AM and was a
Past Patron of Habersham
Chapter No. 480, Order
of the Eastern Star. He
was Charter member
of Lanier Scottish Rite
Club in Gainesville and
a charter member of the
Mountaineer Shrine Club
in Cornelia. Mr. Carlan
was retired from the Lee
Arrendale State Prison.
He spent 37 years in law
enforcement. During
his career, he served as a
Wildlife Ranger, and was
Deputy Sheriff for the
Banks County Sheriff’s
Office, Chief of Police of
Cornelia for six years and
was Chief of Police of
Baldwin for four years. Mr.
Carlan served a number of
years as Poll Manager of
the Hollingsworth Voting
Precinct. He was a 20
year volunteer with the
Hollingsworth Volunteer
Fire Department. Mr.
Carlan was a hay farm
er and enjoyed peddling
watermelons.
Survivors include his
wife of 61 years, Mozelle
Nunnally Carlan, Baldwin;
and a number of nieces
and nephews. He was the
last member of his imme
diate family.
Funeral services
were held Wednesday,
December 2, at First
Baptist Church of
Cornelia, with T. Logan
Smith, the Revs. David
Turner and Gene Todd
officiating. Burial was
in the Harmony Baptist
Church Cemetery with the
Rev. Frank Sailors offici
ating and Masonic Grave
Rites were provided by the
Hollingsworth Masonic
Lodge # 355 F & AM.

Coile Drake. She was a
homemaker and a member
of the Bluestone Baptist
Church. Mrs. Coile was
preceded in death by her
husband, Rufus K. Coile.
Survivors include a

Danielsville; two grand
children; and two great
grandchildren.

She was the daughter of

Melissa Eugenia Blossom
Rucker McCoy. She was
a homemaker, a former
Sunday School teacher,
and a member of Rock
Springs Baptist Church.
Mrs. Cotton was preceded
in death by her husband,
Morgan J. Cotton; and a
son, Lawrence Cotton.
Survivors include grand
daughters raised in the
home, Kelly Savage, Ila,
and Kim Hill, Maysville;
daughters, Linda King,
Clarkesville, Diane Pruitt,
Homer, Sandra Frady,

Dick Detter
ROYSTON - Dick
Detter, 83, died Friday,
November 27, 2009, at his
residence.
Born in Royston on
August 8,
the son of the ~
late Dewey
and Berta Lee Anderson
Detter. He attended
Royston High School
and in 1944 he enlisted
in the United States Navy
and served in the South
Pacific Theater. He was
a charter member of the
Harrison McCreary VFW
Post #4828.
He began working in the
plumbing trade in 1948 and
founded Detter Plumbing
in 1972. Two of his sons
went into business with
him and they continued
to work together until he
retired. He always treated
his customers with respect
and gave good and honest
service.
He was an exceptional
husband and father and
was greatly loved and
respected by all who knew
him. His service to all he
worked for went above
and beyond what was
expected of him. He was a
man who loved life and he
always had time for a talk
or a laugh or a loan if he
had it. He was a humble
man of the highest moral
character and he enjoyed
giving anonymously to
those who were in need.
Survivors include his
wife since 1952, Helen
Knight Detter, Royston;
daughter and son-in-
law, Christy and James
DeCouto, Hartwell; sons
and daughters-in-law,
Darryl and Gail Detter,
Bowman, Wade and Kelly
Detter, Danielsville, and

According to Martha’s

burial to be held at a later
