exact relationship between the two "Monitor” newspapers during
this time is unknown.)

(In 1900, The Danielsville Monitor purchased The Argus and
operated under a combined name for a few issues.)
• 1910 The Comer Mews
• 1914 The Danielsville Monitor and The Comer Mews are purchased by
C. B. Ayers and his wife, the parents of Jere Ayers.
• 1986 Dogsboro Journal is started by Frank Gillispie in Hull
• 1989 The Madison County Journal
(Gillispie changed the name and the next year, the operation moved
to Danielsville from his home in Hull.)
• 1997 Gillispie sells The Journal to John Scoggins and Pat Graham. A
few months later, they sell The Journal to MainStreet Mewspapers,
Inc. a family-owned firm based in Jefferson where the newspaper
was being printed.
• 2005 Mr. Jere Ayers, owner and publisher of The Danielsville Monitor
and The Comer Mews, dies in a May car wreck.
• 2006 The Madison County Journal merges with The Danielsville
Monitor and The Comer Mews.
