CITY OF HULL HONORS PAUL ELKINS
The City of Hull recently honored its former mayor Paul Elkins for his service.
“It’s been my honor to first serve with mayor Elkins in 2008 and 2009,” said
City of Hull Mayor Paul Walton. “He was mayor of Hull from 2008 to 2013. I’ve
learned quite a bit from him and he is still my mentor to this day. It’s import
ant that we honor people while they are still with us and mayor Paul Elkins
definitely deserves it.” Pictured (L-R) are Becky Elkins, council member Brian
Keopnick, former mayor Elkins, John Barber, mayor Walton and council mem
ber Marilyn Walton.

HULL DONATES TO SHERIFFS OFFICE FOR TASERS
The City of Hull mayor and council issued a check for $3,594 to the Madison
County Sheriff’s Department. The check was for six refurbished Tasers that the
department needed. “I was impressed after speaking with Chief Deputy Jef
frey Vaughn that the department wanted to use less lethal force in their daily
responsibilities,” said Hull Mayor Paul Walton. “It is vital that our great sheriff
department stay equipped with the necessary tools to help keep our city safe.”

BRWA fall cleanup
float set for Oct. 9
The Broad River Watershed Association
(BRWA) will hold its annual fall cleanup
float Oct. 9 from Roy Woods Road to
Peyton Ferry, with the launch at 9:30 a.m.
The event is part of a campaign to
clean and preserve over 70,000 miles of
Georgia’s rivers and streams.
“We’ll put in our boats at Roy Woods
Road, just at the Hwy. 172 bridge,” said
organizers. “We won’t have a shuttle bus,
but we’ll plan on coordinating some pick
up trucks for folks to ride back to their car
in. We’ll also provide a free Rivers Alive
T-Shirt, trash bags and a picnic lunch.
We’ll take out on private property (Peyton
Ferry) 3.5 miles downstream.”
Participants should bring their own canoe
or kayak, drinking water, clothes and shoes
to get wet in.
“We do have a few loaner boats, if you
need one, let me know asap,” said Susan
Staley. “We’ll aim to launch our boats by
9:30 a.m. The float should take three-to-
four hours.”
