Foster k Ilurlan are daily receiving
new goods. Their stock, already the
largest in Calhoun, when it receives
the spring additions will contain every
thing that a purchaser can ask for in
variety, iu the list of general merchan
dise. 'J hey are doing a fine business.
They offer their immense stock at the
very lowest figures, and the public are
iuvited to call.
The last number of the Mari tta
Journal comes to us an iui provement on
its previous issues, especially in its lo
cal department, which is full and com
plete, containing notes of events not
only in its own town, but from different
points in its immediate section. The
people of its section owe it to them
selves to sustain the Journal, and there
is no excuse for not doing so.
Died, at the residence of his brother,
Mr. I. N. Thomas, in this place, on
Friday morning the 9th inst., Mr. John
A. Thomas, aged about twenty-five
years, Consumption marked him for
its victim, and cut him down in the
morning of manhood. Possessed of
many noble and generous qualities both
of head and heart, he won a place in
the confidence and esteem of all with
whom he came in contact. He was
buried at Montevallo on Saturday
Columbiana (Alt.) Sentinel

residence of the bride’s adopted father,

The advei of Curtis k Smith,
manufacturers of carriages, buggies,
Ac., Atlanta, Ga., will be found in this
issue of the Times, to which we take
pleasure in calling the attention of our
readers. While in Atlanta this week
wc called in at their shop, and were
shorn a carriage built for Mr W. D.
Grant, of that city, and for superior
finish it has never been equalled by any
manufacturer iu Georgia. The wood
work, iron-work, trimming, painting and
finishing all correspond in excellence,
and each reflect much credit upon the
builders. The new “C” spring is used,
and also the improved book step, some
thing new in the art of carriage mak..
ing. Mr. Curtis is a son of Mr. J. M
Curtis, of this county, and deserves
much credit for his energy and excel
lent workmanship. Mr. Smith, his
gentlemanly partner, is a sr leDdid
workman, and the firm pride themselves
on turning out neat work at the lowest
possible prices. Geo. W. Wells & Ce.

and can supply their work.

don county circuit, M. E, Church
South, held at Fairmount on the 17th
and 18th instants,ltev. P. O' Reynolds,
H. W. Williams and J.G. B Jicwin were
appoiuted a committee to confer with
the other parts of the county, and agree
upon a time and place for holding a
Sunday School Convention. The com
mittee ask the use ol the columns of .the
Calhoun Times to acquaint our mem

in any and all efforts to p omote the ob

the Fairmount school, and we trust the
other schools in the county will at once
take like steps, and that the work may
culminate in ultimate success.

of the South, anew illustrated 16 page
paper for the young people of the
South. The number before us is a
paragon of excellence, and deserves to
be sustained as a meritorious Southern
institutirn‘ It must be seen only to
be appreciated. It is published week
ly at one dollar per annum. Send for
a copy of this paper, and you will de
cide that you cannot do without it in
your family.
Monday night the woods were j
fired on the hill that lies directly
against the town, and our people were
treated to a scene of unusual grandeur.
The flames spreading almost the entire
length of the hill as they came slowly
down the mountain side shone with a
brilliancy which rendered the speclac
cle sublime, and was enjoyed by every
one who saw it.
