No Matinee.
We regret very much Indeed to announce
that there will be no Matinee at the Theatre
to-morrow afternoon, as previously an
nounced. This is all owing to the fact
that some sections of our State has made a
serious mistake and sent some men to the
Georgia Legislature, instead of to the Luna
tic Asylum where they ought to be. The
State taxes on Minstrel Performances are
unjust, and fall but little short of highway
robbery, m fact it almost amounts to a
prohibition. The poor fellow wtio drew up
9
the bill taxing minstrel companies the sanies
as Gift entertainments, migicians, etc , must
have had a very limited idea of the compara
tive expenses m conducting the several styles
of performances. The idea of taxing a
minstrel company $25 for EACH PERFOR
MANCE is ou lagious, and while we are sorry
to lose the entertainment. NS e are glad to
see the manager kicking against a law that
robs him. NN c shall touch on this subject <>*
highway robbery again very soon.
