One ot the greatest evils of the dispensary is the mean li quor they dispense. The boys who think tell us that it will kill as certainlg as strychnine. It ts a fact, though, that money is what they are after, and we are reliably informed that the aim is for a fifty thousand dollars pro fit this year. Money, blood-money is what we are after, then, to pave Our streets, to educate cur children, while the religion is fast oh the decline, and thriftkssness, and vagabondism, and stealages in high and low places is becoming more and more ramptnt, thf| j S.ibbath is losing its sanctity tP such an extent that strenuous laws must be enacted and farce The ordnance of baptism will made of them or arc winked at be administered Sunday morning by those whose b.mnden duty few 0 o’clock on the branoh just is to maintain them; a thousand times lesser evil is hounded East Athens Notes The revival services at the East Athens Baptist church have closed. This has been one of the most profitable meetings held in this city for many years, the whole churoh was revived and many souls were saved and brought into the knowledge of the truth as it it in Christ our Lord. There are now sixteen awaiting baptism, besides some who will doubtless connect themselves with other eburehes of their ohoiee. The preaohing that has been done by the pastor, Rev. Willie Save, bos been very powerful. We believe that he is a preacher that God has raised up among ue to preach the gospel to his own people for the power and magnetism that he has over the young people could not ;gome from other sources except 'the mighty hand of the Great God of heaven and earth. down as a paliation for this great monster that is hugged so close' ly by the church people. The poor boys who drink must take the blue steel, and the others more able get the best. We-insist that beer saloons would be a thousand times pre ferable to this poisonous stuff. And then the dispensary, at commencement and other big times causes prominent officials, hurchmen and citizens to rent rooms, fill it with beer and whis- ey, issue tickets to themselves, and friends end have all they want. It is rapidly degrading our and the quicker we get rid it, the better. D. FLANIGEN, Mngr. It is witli regrets that we must announce the discontinuance of the morning train on the Central road, which will take effect Sun day, and of course the cheap Sunday rate to Macon. This comes as a surprise to ous people, as from every source came* the information that tint train was paying handsomely. It was a great convenience Jp our people, and wi)/give us a backset. We would suggest rhal the Chamber of Commerce take up the railroad authorities and endeavor to have the train replaced. It looks like a step backwards. Nearly every afternoon the grounds at the Lakeside bathing pool are oovered with people, from fiOO to 1000 being present and the pond is full of bathers— ladies and gentlemen both taking advantage of the beautifully clear water. It. has been vastly improv ed and will be more and more. It is a splendid resort and’ we de sire to see it do well. Let the peo ple go over and enjoy it. The government fishery ear will be in Athens in a few days and will stock the pond at Lakeside with blaek bass, a game fish. Boats life preservers and swim' min jaokets will be in a day or two. Little Elizabeth, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Vonderleith was run over by a negro man and woman driv ing a mule hitohed to a buggy. When the little one was knooked down they drove on and let some- on eelse pick the child up. She sus tained some severe bruises, but we hope it will not prove serious. The Bumble Bee did not make its appearance this time. The streu- ous fight they made on the boys last year set them book a year or two. They found out who did the last one and regrets were made if anybody’s feelings were hurt— thatsall. Wo suppose they agreed not to do so again. Suoh is life. Mr. P. M. The burning of the negro rapist at the stake in Wilmington, Del., a few days ago, bat brings out clearer the fact that human nature is about the same whether in the north or in the south. The dif ference is that we plant trees down south to hang ’em on and the Standard Oil Co., makes the oil with which they are saturated to be burned in the north. Tbie is an unpardonable crime, and the black fiend or white demon that commits it may expeot a speedy and sometimes torturous death, the hands of an outraged people. The way for Booker and his peo ple to do is to stop th.e o/ime and lynohings will oease, but they can preach and plead from now to doomsday, bnt childhood and wo manhood will be proteoted from the cankerous fiends both at the north and the south, We do not approve of the burnings, but it seems that even that won’t stop tbe crime. The north must stop its mouth now. Don't Put Off The Insurance Man Yon cannot tell at what moment you may be called from tbie life, and you cannot aff< rd to leave certain obligations unattended to.
