appeal to admit nice young men been ‘^“>8 “> Ret out for some

snubbed on that account.
Well really, we cannot form an
idea as to whether we should
agreo with the writer or not. If
she means the society that Bro.
Culpepper denominated as the
first cut, and then made the
assertion that in saw mill par
lance that meant the slab—that
part of the human make-up,
that paints and powders, and ex
hibits bones and egotism, who
sleep all day, and in dress-suits
and decollette dresses, wallow in
each other’s arms all night, under

wine ind liquor and get glorious

who play cards am) get to cheat

that Buch a thing does occur fre
quently, and wind up in a scrap
and say ugly things about each
other, especially the one that
wins, then, by the bones of Bnc-

trail. You had better bundle
the boy or girl up in their swad
dling clothes and consign them
into the open jaws of the muddy

take to kill him if he surges on

THE OHIO CRI
Springfield, Ohio, has
lynched a negro who was a
derer. Down here negro murdi
rers are peaceably haDged by the
neck until dead. But in Ohio
the whole town turns out and they
burn them, shoot them full of
lead, carry away the carcass and
all the soldiers in the state can
not disperse the mob.
Springfield is not over a dozen
miles from Urbana—and Urbana
is whereabout three years ago
they lynched a negro and inci
dentally shot helpless babes and
wounded inoffensive citizens who
were rubber-necking.
The South gives it up. It yields
the point and cheerfully confesses
that when it comes to lawlessness
and fiendiBhness it is not in it
compared to the Buckeye state.
A negro stands not half the show
for his life, if he transgresses the
law, at the North as he does at the
South. And yet the brazen and
oonsoienceless scribblers on North
ern papers continually defame the
South because once in awhile
down here we take a blaok brute
who has despoiled a defenceless
woman and boil him in oil.—
Everything.
The way to make the Southern
states turn Republican is for the
maehine politicians who want to
perpetuate themselves in office
oall primaries at a time when no
one but thetas can get a ohance.
By the way, the South would be
more prosperous is the states were
doubtful. Suppose it was close
in Georgia now, some of Teddy’s
money would pour in and we could
soon inorease the Confederate pen
sion money, and possibly build
the new hotel.
