Aristocracy Defined.—On additional and
more profound reflection on the subject of
aristocracy, we have arrived at the following
definition of that term, which we apprehend
is as near the mark as possible:
Aristocracy—A class of person, who des
pise the public, and are venerated by the
public for that reason.
Comfort from the Horse Guards.—Lord
Seymour declared in the commons that “we
had patronnge for three regiments in the
household brigade, and all tne officers for
the regiments, but men only for one.” That
is, we have the fine, flashy, expensive han
dles for sword; but, somehow, we want two-
thirds of the swords themselves.

AND POST, semi-weekly, (Mondaysaud
Thursdays) $4; and for tho STATESMAN AND
WEEKLY POST, (Fridays) $2.
These papers have b«en pubciabed in Bofltcc
during the last twenty years, and have steadily
increased in popular favor. . Their range of sub
scription ie exceeded in extent and aggregate by
no paper in the New. England States.
They are edited by Charles G. Grxrjix and
Richard Frothihgrax, Jr., nnd employ a large
and competent corps of assistant editors, reporters
and correspondents. Neither labor or expense is
spared to make their columns valuable and inter
esting.
Their hxadisg matter is arranged in the incut careful
and systematic manner. In it* variety may be found
the (onree of the success which the Post hii* enjoyed,
and, we flatter ourselves, merited. In tbceditorial de
partment; the amount of correspondence, foreign, nnd
from different part* of the Union; the condensed news
paragraphs; the reports of home matters, lectures and
entertainment*; the thorough nnd accurate marine in
formation; the daily financial and monetary remarks
and weekly reviews; the gleanings from London Picto
rial* and European publication?; the political record*;
musical notices; humorous and epigrammatic matter,
and poetical contributions, which make up the mui.v
issraov tub Post, the reader may gratify every desire,
whether for amusement or information, The “first
side” of the paper la a daily reourrrence of fpict va
riety, selected and original, designed to meet etsrx
taste.
Their ADvritn-ixo coU’M.vs embrace an almost entire
synopsis of the business of New England; nnd from
that deportment of the paper alone can be obtained a
correct impression of the character of trade, Its facil
ities and its oporatiqns: while the financial editorial*
give an accurate Tiew of parsing events in the com
mercial world.
The PRESS ft POST is made from the Daiiy’s contents,
and published every Monday and Thursday morning.—
It is clearly and handsomely printed on fine paper, in
clear, type, and the subscription is four dollar* a year.
The BOSTON STATESMAN AND WEEKLY POST al
ready enjoys a very large circulation: and its rapidly
increasing list attests the preference which the public
entertains for it. It* contents form a history of every
week; foreign news in detail, domestic information,
agricultural items, commercial and monetary articles,
statements of trade, of the weather, of crops, ftc.:
accounts of meetings, political records, ncyvs of every
description, poetry, pleasant reading matter, hums
rous items, epigrams; in fact, a thoroughly furnished
general Newspaper—a brief and comprehensive histo

rate of two dollars a year for subscription. Ctrl* 1 *, ta
king ten or more copies'in one package, trill be furnished
at a liberal (Hreount.
These journals arc carefully conducted, and, us onr
patronage proves, In accordance with the public want.
They are edited in a faith in democratic principles, but
in a spirit of forbearance and conciliation towards all
parties. As advertising meliiimis they are unsurras
sed; penetrating, as they do, into such a variety ot
households scattered over the whole Union, and read
as they are by all classes of the community, they fur
nish an opportunity for the diffusion of information
which can scarcely be obtained elsewhere.

CONSUMPTION
SCCCKSSFCLI.Y TREATED BY INHALATION OP MEDI
CATED VAPORK,
E Y JOHNSON STEWART ROSE. M. D.,
Follow of the Royal College of Physicians,
and for years Senior Physician iu the Loudon
Royal Infirmary for diseases of the Lungs.
In the treatment of Consumption by inhalation,
I have obtained the results which warrant me in
asserting, that it is now as curable as diseases of
the Stomach and Liver.
Breathing medicine directly into the lungs is
certainly tho rationnl mode of attacking tho dis
ease, and like many other great and benificent dis
coveries, it seems strange why such treatment was
not resorted to long ago. Where there is life (herp
is now assured hope for the roost seemingly hope
less cases, as throughout all the stages of the in
sidious disease, the wonderful and bcnificcnt et»
focts of his treatment are soon nppRreut. In co
ses also of Bronchitis, Asthma, etc., tho inhaling
of powders and vapors has been eminently suc
cessful, nnd to those suffering under any of the
above named complaints, I can gurrnntce speedy
and certain relief. I have pleasure in referring to
207 names, residents of New York.nnd neighbor
hood, who hnvo been restored to vigorous health.
About one third of the above number, according to
the patients own statements, were considered hope
less oases.
Tho Inhaling Method is Hootliing, sate, and
cousists in the administration of medicine in such
a manner that they nro conveyed into the Lungs
in the form of vapor, and produce their action at
the seat of tho disease. Its practical success is
destined to revolutionize the opinions of the medi
cal world, ami establish the entire curability of
consumption.
Applicants will please state if they have ever
bled from the Lungs, if ibey have lest flesh, huve
a cough, night sweats and fever turns—what nnd
how much they- expectorate, what the condition
of their stomach and bowels. The necessary Med
icines, Apparatus, etc., will be forwarded to any
part.
TERMS—Five Dollar?, consultation foe. Bal
ance of fee payable only when patients report
themselves convalescent.
N. B.—The new postage law, requires (tint all
lottors be pre-pnid. My correspondence being
extensive, applicants, to ensure replies, must en
close postage.
