Very respeetfullv your obedient servant, t
Shawnee Mission, April G, 1855.
At a meeting of a portion of the citizens
0 f Kansas Territory, hold at the Shawnee
Mission on the 6th inst., to take into consid
eration the course to be pursued by them in
ihe event of a new election being cailed for
[lie purpose of electing members to the
Kansas Legislature to fill the places of those
who have been refused certificates of election
by Gov. Reeder, a committee was appointed
tor the purpose of presenting some plan lor
the consideration of the meeting. "he
committee retired, and, after short delibera
tion, presented the following resolutions,
which were unanimously adopted:
Whereas, there arc elected, and to whom
certificates have been granted, a majority
of both houses; and whereas the right of
ordering a new election is not delegated to
i ,'ov. Reeder by the Kansas bill, except in
case of a tic, or where a vacancy is caused
by death or resignation; and whereas the
ri"ht to decide all cases of contested elec
tions for the Legislature, is clearly recog
nized in the Kansas bill and by the Govern
or himself, as belonging to that body alone.
Be it therefore
Resolved, That, in the event a new elec
tion shall be ordered by the governor in
oiiy district, we recommend to every law-
abiding and order-loving citizen of Kansas
Territory not to attend said elections, but
rely upon the returns already made to sus
tain the claims of those ruturned hcrtoforc
to their seats in each house.
Resolved, That the secretary of this mee
ting have these proceedings published in all
;he public journals of this Territory which
advocate and defend the rights of the citi
zens of Kansas Territory against executive
usurpations.
The meeting then adjourned.
JOHN W. FORMAN, Chairman.
John Martin, Secretary.
The Cocrt ok Claims.—From all that we
tm gather, it strikes us that it will be some
time yet before this tribunal goes regularly
to business, though they are said to be en
gaged in consultation preparatory to open-
ing. We presume that these sossions are
held with the view of adopting rules and
regulations, and otherwise preparing them
selves to commence the diehargo of their du
ties under a well digested and satifactory
system. Time thus spent, cannot be time
thrown away ; and the interests of suitors
before thorn, as well as of the Government,
can hardly fail to be best subserved by the
adoption of a carefully matured system of
rules ere they take up the first case on their
calendar.
We have every reason to bolieve that their
sessions will be held in the Capitol build
ing ; probably in the chamber of tho Su
premo Court* at first. "We hear that tho
judges of tho Claims Court are of opinion
ihat the statute makes it obligatory upon
them to sit in tho Capitol.— Washington
Sentinel.
John Ericsson, the inventor of the caloric
engine, has expended all of his own and his
wife’s fortune in his labors in prosecuting
his inventions, and is now in destitute cir-
i-umstances. As his poverty is the conse
quence of his exertions to promote science
and to benefit mankind, the following prop
osition has been made by a respectable cit
izen of Michigan :
“ Lot a collection be taken up for his
(Ericsson’) benefit, in every town and ward
in the United States, on the 4th day of July
next, and in all the meetings for making
arrangements to celebrate that day, let it
lie a part of their duty to appoint a com
mittee to rcceivo contributions, and in towns
or wards where the day is not celebrated,
let there be a committee appointed to go
through the town or ward and solicit con
tributions for this speoial object. Let every
orator on that day allude to this matter in
his oration, and cause a collection to be ta
ken up on the spot. Let the amount of each
collection taken up be reported in the nearest
public print. Let the committees of each
county unite their amounts and purchase a
draft on New York, made payable to the
order of John Ericsson, and lie forwarded
to John Thompson, Wall street, New York,
who will cause tho amount received from
each State to be reported in his Bank Note
Reporter, for the gratification of the donors.
Each draft should mention the county and
State from which e.ach donation is made.”

H G. Farrell’s Arabian Liniment Tri
umphant over Disease.
This truly great medium- still goe> on, conquering
disease, and snatching many a poor powerless victim
from the grave. By its powerfully stimulating, pene
trating and anodyne qualities, it restores the use of
limbs which have been palsied for years ; ami by its
singular power of reproducing the synovial fluid or
joint water, it cures all diseases of the joints with
surprising rapidity. For rheumatism, andaifections of
the spine and spleen, it has proved itself a specific; and
lor affections of the lungs, liver and kidneys, it is a
most valuable and powerful auxiliary: also, for all dis
eases of the glands, scrofula, goitre or swelled neck,
cte., etc. And indeed for almost any disease where an
external application is required, this medicine stands
unparalleled. Sprains, bruises, cramps, wounds, chil
blains, burns, etc., are speedily cured by it.
From the Hon. Peter Menard, one of the Oldest
Settlers in Illinois.
It gives me pleasure to add my tostimony to the vir
tues of your gren t medicine. One of my blooded horses
had a sw-elling over the cap of the knee, about the size
of a hen’s egg. Some said it was a strain, and some,
that it was the joint-water from the knee, and could
not he, cured, I tried oil cedar on it, and all the lini
ments and ointments, and they did no more good than
water. I then, by persuasion of my friends, tried H.
G. Farrell's Arabian Liniment, and 1 was happy to And
it take effect after a few days, and it finally cured thr
noble animal entirely. I think it Is decidedly the great-
eat liniment foj horse's, and aswell as human flesh, I
everknew.

PALSY GR PARALYSIS.—Thadeus Smith, of Mudd
Creek Tazewell co., 111. says: “I had lost the use of
iny arm for more than a year, hv palsy or paralysis; the
flesh had entirely withered away, leaving nothing but
skin, muscle and bone. 1 tried all the best doctors, aud
all the remedies 1 could hear of, but they did no good.
I then commenced the use of 11. G. F'arrell’s Arabian
Liniment, and a few bottles entirely cured me, aud my
arm, is now as strong and fleshy as the othor: it is also
first rate for burns, sprains and bruises.
Look oat for Counterfeits!
The public are cautioned against another counter
feit. which has lately made its appearance, called W.
B. Farrell’s Arabian Liniment, the most dangerous of
:.H the counterfeits, because his having the name of
Farrell, many will buy it ingood faith, without the
knowledge that a counterfeit exists, and they will per-
haps only discover their error when the spurious mix
ture has wrought its evil effects.

VIRGINIA ELECTION
Something Decisive at Last.
We have advices of the Virgin is election,
that our readers may rely upon as correct.
We are in jvossession of returns from 107
counties, which give Flournoy majorities
amounting to 11,000 in the aggregate. The
same counties give Wise majorities of 19.000.
There yet remains to be heard from 37
counties which gave Pierce 3000 majority
over Scott. We may then safely accept Mr.
Wise’s own figures, at which he placed his
vote before the election. The result, we
think, will at any rate, declare the Demo
cratic majority to be at least 10,000.
Let no patriot feel dejected at this news f; magnificent Schem
And we advise even Know-Nothings to re
joice that the long suffering of an ever-
watchful Providence has delivered them, as
well as the country, from the toils they set
with their own hands—and that in spite of
much waywardness and ill desert they have
been preserved, from falling into poieer.
The Richmond Despatch of Monday con
tains returns “partly official and partly re
ported,” from 79 counties and towns, which
give Wise 0,293 majority. Sixty-five coun
ties remaiu to be heard from, which gave
Pierce a majority of 4,603. A like vote for
Wise will make his majority 10,950.

I EAR AND EYE.
j Rrs. LeBraa & Diftei, Oculists and
Aarists.
D R. LkBHUN offers to those suffering from
Deafness his infallible Aural Remedies, which
hare been successful in nearly three thousand ca
ses of confirmed deafness. These remedies have
been pronounced by Drs. Khramer, of Berlin;
Itard and Deleau, of Paris; and Curtis, Pilcher
and Yeanly, of London; as the most wonderiul
ever applied for disease of the internal and middle
ear. They comprise different courses forthe vari
ous disuses that affect the external, internal and
middle ear. If tho disease is confined to the ex
ternal ear, their effects arc apparent on the fifth or
sixth day. Dr. LeBron warrants a cure in every
case, when the ear is perfect in its formation. He
has eighteen certificates from those who hare been
deaf from infancy, whose hearing is now com
pletely restored, and they are now enabled to loarn
the languages. Over twenty-seven hundred cases
of deafness have been successfully healed by him.
Certificates to that effect may be seen on applica
tion.
In nervous affections, inflamation and mucus
accumulation in the Eustachian Tube and Tympa
num, thickening and inflamation of the Membra nd
Tympunia, or ‘drum,' Otorrhcea or discharge of
matter from the Auditory Canal; when the deaf-
nesg has been produced by Scarlet, Tyrphus, Bili
ous, or Remittent Fever, Colds, use of Quinine or
Mercurial Medicines, Mumps, gatherings in the
Ears, etc., or when it is accompanied with noises
like falling wafer, chirping of insects, whizzing of
steam, rustling of leaves, ringing of bells, pulsa
tions, etc., etc., tho disease can be radically and
permanently cured.
Dr. Dufton is the only practitioner in tho United
States who practices the new, painless, and success
ful method in treating all the diseases to which
the Eyo is subject. Where every other means has
failed to afford relief, he asks from such a fair im
partial trial.
Testimony.
The undersigned practitioners of Medicine in
the city of New York, having had occcasion to
witness the practice of Drs. LeBrun A Dufton, in
diseases of the Ear and Eyo, laying aside all pro
fessional jealousy, freely admit that the courso
pursued by them in treating diseases of these del
icate organs, from the unparalleled success attend
ing it, is well worthy the attention of our profes
sional brethren throughout the United States, be
lieving as we do, that Aural Surgery has not met
with that attention which its important? demands.
Their system of treating diseases of tho middlo
aqfffcierual Ear. in chronic or complicated cases
hy^Muns of “Medicated Vapors,” forms anew
era in the practice of Aural Surgery, and fills up
a void which has long been felt by tho general
practitioner. In diseases of the Eye, they seldom
require to resort to an operation. As skillful Au-
rists aud Oculis, enthusiastically devoted to their
profession, we cordially recommend them to such
as require their aid.

tle atmospheric poison which at certain seasons is
unavoidably inhaled at every breath, is the same

newly discovered antidote, which is claimed to be
the greatest discovery in medicine ever made.

by persons of every age, sex or condition audit

worse, as is too often the result in tho treatment by
Quinine, Mercury, Arsenic, and other poisonous or

is admitted into this preparation.
The proprietor distinctly claims these extiaoidi-
ntiry results from the use of this natural antidote
to Malaria.
