MCC CONFERENCE
continued from page 1
the Reverend Roy Birchard
of New York.
The highlights of the week
came in the form of two
special speakers. After lunch
on Saturday, August 2,
Representative Elaine Noble
Of the Massachusetts House
of Representatives gave the
Social Action Address. Rep.
Noble is the first open gay
person to be elected to a
major political office.. She
reminded the six hundred
people assembled of their
“power’ and the fact that if
all gathered would write
three letters to their
representatives and senators
there would be a national
equal rights amendment for
• gays. Sunday evening the
conference was honored to
hear Dr. Norman Pittenger a
well-known Episcopalian
theologian from England. Dr.
Pittenger’s remarks centered
on the lifestyle of the gay -
community and its joys and
responsibilities of living a
Christian life.
Over eighty churches,
missions, and study groups
now compose the U.F. of
M.C.C. and that figure will be
well over the one hundred
mark by the Seventh Annual
General Conference next
year. That meeting is
scheduled for August 10-16 in
Washington, D. C. with the
theme “Proclaim Liberation
in all the Land.” Before the
close of the Sixth General
Conference it was moved and
passed to invite all our gay
brothers and sisters
throughout the world to join
with us in an affirmation on
Sunday, August 16. And a
special invitation was ex
tended to President and Mrs.
Ford.
