An All Star Cast Adrian Sanchez Cheerleader Trisha nanelli Lorraine BS| DALE'S WORLD By Frank Dale TV is not Television Necessarily This issue I am devoting my column to transvesitism, female impersonation* and cross dressing. In casjp you are not clear as to the dif ference between these three areas Professor SexUs may help us straighten them out. f “First let me say that cross dressing is not really a seperate area as you have said, it designates anyone, male or female who dresses in the clothers of the opposite sex. Today this would cover just about all of our youth with todays unisex styles. Also I would like to add “drag, and transexual’ to Mr. Dale’s list of terms. “A transvestite is a male who like to dress in womens clothes or Some article of womens apparel. This male is a heterosexual and usually prefers to do his cross dressing in the privacy of his, own home. Several well known stars have been gossiped to be TV’s, such as Gary Grant, Milton Berle, johnny Carson’s ex-side-kick (his name escapes me). if “A female impersonator is also a cross dresser, but he 'can be hetero- or homo sexual. Here the difference is that a F.I. uses cross dressing for the purpose of en tertainment and it is more often a case of a business and not pleasure in wearing femal clothing that is the deciding factor. They could be called, ‘AMale Actress’. I “The transexual is a male or female who feels that he is a woman living in a man’s body or visa-versa. This feeling is so strong that they seek out an operation to Change their outward sex. All too often these people are really only homosexuals and not true transexuals. But the transexual is not a cross dresser, T.V., or F.I. i “Drag is a term that was coined in Shakespeares’ time when men played the women parts in the theatre. They really were female im personators, but at that time it was called playing the part in drag. Today this term denotes a gay who dresses as a woman and are not to be confused with the other mentioned here. In most cases itis considered by most as a derogatory term.” Prof. Sexus Wi MAN AS ROMEO? Recently the Boston Opera Compan^. under the direction of Sarah Cp Id well shocked audiences by casting the role of Romoe in its revival of bellinis’ “I Capjletti ed i Montecchi.” Tatiana Troyanos played the teen- aged Veronese stud to Beverly Sill’s Juliet. The reason for this case of cross dressing was because when Bellini wrote his opera parts usually sung by castrati with their beautiful tenor voices could not longer be filled. This because 200-years of the castrate was over. So Bellini turned to the female voice which he felt could only due justice to his music and thus mezzos needed, but in our day people could not accept a female in the male role. My thanks to Ms. Caldwell' for breaking with tradition and presenting this opera as it was meant to be played. The Trockdero is the orginial from which the Monte Carlo split some time ago. Some people think that they are doing this just for comedy, but: in the case of the Gloxinia that is not so. The only problem is that while they come-on as ultra- feminine ballerinas, they just are not good dancers. In many cases also the male parts are played by fellows who are prettier and more graceful than those in the female roles. The Monte Carlo don’t take themselves quite so seriously and fare much better . DON WE NOW OUR GAY APPAREL F.I. NEWS is one of the best publications around devoted to cross-dressing.
