8-THE BARB
TFNNESSEE TALES
Howdy! Welcome to the
great state of Tennessee. . . if not
physically then in spirit. Enough
B.S., now to some gjeeze.
NASHVILLE
Took a trip to Music City a
couple of weeks ago. Arrived just
in time to catch the last show at
the Other Side. Regina, someone
said resembled Liz Taylor. I was
very surprised to see Tony
Durand (of Sweet Gum Head
fame), out of drag, screaming
something about she sure was
glad she was a queer. Tell ‘em
hon...
The men as usual were
gorgeous. Couldn’t tell, though,
if I was being cruised or stared at
'cause I was taking notes.
After the bar was over I went to
a party where I was the only one
sober or not fucked-upj^the only
one who was not passed' out for
that matter — “mavbe it’s mv
breath”—anyway, I watched the
Jeiry Lewis telethon on the tele
for a while and left...
CHATTANOOGA
Buzzed by the Powder Puff
first to say hello to Bill and Ann.
Mark was floating around waiting
tables screaming how her wig was
killing her, but, rolling in the tips
none the less.
Left the P.P. . then went to
the Go Go Club, where the show
was about to begin .
1 was amazed to see the place
packed and overflowing with
people. Where were all these
pretty men when I lived in
Chattanooga.
Had a marvelous time. My love
to Adrian, Cheerleader, and of
course to Miss Todd.

very plush and elegant, but still
has disco dancing, but a nice
calm, non-hectic atmosphere, and
honeys, it’s just real cruisy! It is
named Europa.
I don’t know all of the em
ployees yet — but I’m working on
it, believe me. The ones I do
know, I love dearly and are very
good at their jobs. Brenda, Randy
(formerly Rene) and Kim are the
waiters I know. Bobby is the only
bartender I know and he is one of
the sweetest (and most gorgeous)
guys you’ll ever hope to meet.
Your Disco Baby is Archie
(formerly the Angelic Angela)
playing those hits you want to
, hear .. and a few you don’t.
The Go Go Boys are Rob, Tim
and Mike (are those bulges in
their briefs real?). I still think
Matty Mathews should be a go
goer.
Your hosts are Bob and Vernon
and I compliment them on a
beautiful bar.
From Europa I cruise to the
Carousel Club, in my opinion an
excellent disco. Their illuminated
disco flashes multi-colored strips
with really fantastic effect.
Exhausted, I walk up the
staircase to the Carousel II
presenting (as every weekend)
,Jamie Chamber’s Evening of
Entertainment featuring the
foremost in female im
personation. 1 enjoyed the entire
show tremendously, but
screamed when Miss Vickie came
out looking like a carbon-copy of
Patty Labelle and did Lady
Marmalade.
The evening was topped off by
everyone and I mean everyone
going to Chuck’s the 24 hour gay
restaurant and watching one of
the Carousel’s bartenders belly-
dance on a restaurant table.
Well, that’s about all the
evening news this time - until
later... Love always, L.F.

Hi America! This being my first
column for The Barb, I will start
by introducing myself and the
state in which I live.
My name is B. B. Lamont and I>
reside in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
Fort Smith is a relatively small
city as far as cities go, with a
population of 65,000. This,
however, is not including the
15,000 cats, 25,00 dogs and lord
knows how many ticks.
Fort Smith sets on the state line
of Arkansas, and Oklahoma. We
are fortunate in having two gay
bars within the city. The first bar I
inhabited was Bonnie’s Show Bar
loc ated at 600 N. 10th Street. The
bar is owned by Bonnie Henson.
On my first visit to Bonnie’s I was
immediately made to feel
welcome and at home. After
being there but a short time
Bonnie told me that there was
another bar just a couple of blocks
up the street.
I could not believe my ears. To
think that I had finally met a bar
owner who was not out to cut the
competition. This was the city for
me, and in June 1 moved from
Fayetteville. The other bar we
have here is Hy Kamp at 808 N.
10th. Hy Kamp is owned by
Randy and has a really great
atmosphere.
Both bars have full drag
shows with the boys doing
numbers also. They alternate
shows from one bar to the other.
The shows are held*on Saturday
nights from 10 p.m. till midnight.
For those out-of staters, out-of-
towners, looking for a good time
and wonderful people both bars
have all you need.
As a group of gay people we are
from time to time, harassed by
the local mod-squad of Fort
Smith. However, we are in the
process of doing something to
protect our people and rights. At
the present time we are actively
campaigning to form our own
organization called “GO.” This
simply stands for Gay
Organization. I strongly urge all
Fort' Smith readers to get it
together and Go!Go!Go!
On Friday, September 26th we
held our Annual Miss Gay Fort
Smith , Pageant, which was a
smashing success.
A pot luck picnic is set for
Sunday, October 5th at Carol-Ann
Park. At this writing it looks like
we’ll have another huge success.
It is Have a Gay month, and I
promise a detailed account on the
recrowning of Miss Gay Fort
Smith, operation “GO” and the
Sunday picnic in my next in
stallment — till then God love.
