_E'S WORLD
By Dr. Frances R. Dale
Welcome; its good to see so
many of you back again and to see
ail the faces. It may seem
strange to some of yon to hear me
say, that I can see you, but these
columns are my eyes on the
world. Just as The Barb is the
eyes and ears of the southern gay
world, and a guide to what's
happening through out the nation
of interest to the gay person.
THIS AND THAT
I am sure thatSgf. Matlovich
believes in what he is doing, but 1
personally believe that he is
wrong in some ways -il don’t even
believe that he really knows
what he wants and it is only
something new and exciting to
him .the gay world), after all he
has made up his mind after just
one homo-experience - like love at
first sight its wonderful, but is it
ever lasting? I’m afraid that he
will be sorry later and that he will
not do any real good in his fight.
Will the Pentagon etc. be any
more tolerant? Well I think Prof.
Sexus will shed some light on this
subject later in this months
oolumn.
As Gibsbn W. Higgins said
in his column (Barb Va. 2, No.
9); “Lesson: Don’t try to foil an
assassination attempt if you
don’t want your homosexuality
publicized.’’ Also I think this
incident tells us something else.
That i£s better to die than be
rescued by a queer.
This was what Pres. Ford
was saying in essence, if there
had not been so much publicity
and fear of losing the gay vote,
'the president most likely would
■ not have ever reoognized him and
given him official thanks. Even
the poor tellow’smocher was upset
when she heard that her son was
ignored after he had saved the
president’s life, but then when
she heard that her son was a
homosexual she “understood’’
the presidents position and didn’t
blame him for not recognizing
what he did. That’s a mothers’
love for you!
Chief Davis of the Los
Angeles Police Dept, who said;
“The liaisons that homosexuals
spontaneously engage in in public
theaters and back alleys and that
sort of thing and the high per
centage of germs and so forth
pose a real health threat to the
people who work with them,” in
response to why tie would not hire fc
homosexuals, should only know
just how many gay policeman are
already working * 1 in the depart
ments aioung the country - boy
would he be shocked! There once
was a gay bar icalled the Blue
Parrot in one of our largest cities
which catered qnly to gay and
bisezual cops.
TALKING WITH THE
PROFESSOR
I was discujssing tne subject
of, the federal government etc,
being more tolerant of gays, with
Prof. Sexus and he said; While
employment is (increasingly more
viewed as aj constitutionally
protected right than just as a
mere privilege!, there are other ,
ways of getting around the
subject. Applications for. public
employment (federal government
etc.) do not j have a written
question as toj a persoiTs'sexual
preference, bi^t the investigation
’ required for certain jobs can turn
up information which can affect!'
an applicant’s! “suitabilty for the -
job.’ In the case of the L. A. police
department \kere and are asked
verbally if they are gay and are
ch ecked out with a lie detector. !■
Also because of the pressure
of civil rights and gay liberation
groups, the federal, state or
private employer rarely will list
his reason far disqualification as
being homosexually affected. If a
person is told that the reason for
termination of public employment
is of a homosexual nature, the
courts now require proof of “a
rational nexus between the
conduct complained of and job
performance.”
I posed the question of the
possibility of a man desiring a sex
change operation, but being
unable to afford it, could he
submit to Medicaid for such an
operation. The dear old professor

operation tor the good of his
mental health and a psychiatrist
is willing to certify that the
operation is necessary for his
mental health then he may be
able to get assistance, hi one case
in New York the state agency
disapproved on the grounds that
such an operation was not
“medically necessary’’ but it
was determined that medica
assistance may not be restticteo
to purely physical problems.”
SHOPPING AROUND TOWN
I wouid like to mention again
a couple of good local items.
(Atlanta *rea): First is GOLDEN
BOY CREATIONS, they handle
many good products at com
petitive prices. I do not recom
mend the PUMPJT, as fhis item
can be harmful, as it creates a
vacuum that can rupture the
capflaries which later can lead to
failure to obtain an erection. This
will not necessarily happen to all
people using such appliances, but
its best not to take chances. But
ALL THE OTHER ITEMS they
list in their advertisements are
GREAT. Give them your support.
Second I would like to again
mention CONFIDENTIAL
SERVICES, the private, personal
mail service for guys. Their rates
are reasonable and I have found
their services to be TOP RATE.
They service not only the Atlanta
area, out all areas that: this
publication reaches, : which is
over a quarter of the U.S. and
Europe. .

Kopay, I simply askpd her how I *
might contact a player who had
moved . from the NFL to the :
Southern California Sun. She
suggested I. might call the one
remaining office of the WFL, and
even , offered to give me the
number.
After a long time on 1
“hold;” however, the same
woman returned with a ’ com- %
pletely different attitude,
“Are you calling about Dave
Kopay?” she asked - “the player
who admitted that he’s gay?”
I opted ‘for the truth. A
longer, colder pause, and then: :
“I’m sorry. We can’t help you.”
She went ojn (o suggest that I
should try to contact Lynn
Rosellini.
My luck didn’t change when
I attempted to call Rosellini. At
first 1 was told that she was
“out.” Another call for the v
sports department brought the :
message that she didn’t work for -
the Washington-Star at all, but
was a freelance writer; That was
later empaticaQy denied by a
woman in the circulation i
department, who said Rosellini
even had an office in the sports
department
I have yet to hear from
Rosellini
Meantime, on TV, it’s back
to the players and their Wives
and girl friends and children,
their injuries and toe scores.
The Kopay story has been
buried. For all I know, Kopay
himself was buried.
All of which leaves me with
the feeling that not only does
Big Brother carry a hidden
microphone in one hand-but he
has a football in the other.
I would like to leave you *
