ALABAMA AD-LIBS
By SCOTT YOUNG
Hello again! Another issue,
another month and this month
brings another birthday for yours
truly. NO, I’M NOT 69!
Hsrhaps in an upcoming issue I’ll
find a photograph so you can see
what I look like. If Phyllis Killer
can, I can!
Our congratulations to Tina
Louise Monclief III, winner of
the coveted title of 1976 Miss
Gay Birmingham. Tina tapped
her way into the hearts of the
judges with her first talent
number, “Wall Street” from the
nusical “Dames at Sea.” The
pageant was held at the Bir
mingham FOP Lodge on Sunday,
March 21st and was co
sponsored by The Gizmo and
Chances R. Jerry Bradley,
Gzmo owner and Bill Goodin,
Chances R owner, both are to be
congratulated for the joint
cooperation! Everyone enjoyed
the affair, even some of the vice
squad members who were
having their own party down
stairs and wandered upstairs to
see what the activity was about.
No arrest • just unrest as I diink
s>me of them were turned on by
the bevy of beautiful girls!
Special Mistress of Ceremonies
was Lady Baronessa Miss Gay
America 1973 from Daytona.
Lady Baronessa did an' out
ran ding job of keeping the
pagent running as smoothly as
possible with twenty contestants
vieing for the title. Was good
having The Barb’s, editor Bill
Smith o"h hand ‘as one of the
judges along with their
decisions. Let me add here; I
thought the talent of ALL 20 of
the contestants was above par!
As the evening went on, the stiff.

those are ably assisted by the
CA's own talented troup of
female impersonators.
They're planning
ai sending a representative to
the “Miss South” pageant in
H>t Springs on May 8th.
Manager Mike tells me of his
|ians to build an adjoining patio
to be used by the patrons during
die Summer months and they're
still opening at 11:00 p.m. on
Sunday nights, although they
don’t actually start, selling beer
<r hard liquor until the handsome
of the dock strike midnight.
Meanwhile at the Chances R,
their entourage of entertainers
take ot the stage on Friday and
competition was narrowed down
to the top five. They were: Tina
Louise Montclief III, Melanie
Mgnon, Rhonda Reddy, Tara
Dennis and Misty Black. These
five beauties did another talent
number to help the judges
aiongwith their decisions.
Finally the judges decisions
helped revive a somewhat sleepy
but still enthusiastic audeince.

bewitching hour of midnight!)
First runner-up was Tara
Dennis, sponsored by the
Rainbow Inn in Montgomery.
Second runner-up was Bir
mingham’s own Misty Blade
sponsoredby the Chances R.
The rush is on to Rushton!
Rushton Park that is! The mini
size park located Highland
Avenue and 31st Street South in
Rrmingham’s Southside (where
app. 75 percent of Birmingham
giys reside), has been the
camping grounds on Sundays for
giy guys. My first visit afforded
me the opportunity of watching
one of the best (?) volleyball
games between the “Nells” and
the “Nelliers”! As April
showers would have it, the
gound was a bit muddy in
places but this made for a more
enjoyable afternoon, at least for
those of us who were only
spectators! It would be nice for
the three bars here to get up
their own teams and play in
serious competiton. If you are
hterested call Jerry or Bill; Mike
is the man to see at the Coming
Attractions. If you don’t play,
come on down some Sunday.
You might want to pack a picnic
lunch. I’ve always enjoyed
looking at nice baskets!,.
Speaking of the Coming
Attractions in recent weeks
they’ve presented such star
celebrities as Rachel Wells,
Kelly Keebler, Brenda Dee and
Deva Sanchez. __April 23rd and
