corner at Juanita's.
Located on Commerce
Ave. past 24 years,
Juanita’s is a Nashville
institution. Next door is
the Jungle, where you
can start your day with
breakfast and end it
with an intimate
cocktail around the
piano bar.
After a day of
sightseeing we trucked
on down Interstate 40
to Memphis. The Bluff
City is Tennessee’s
largest and it’s gay life
reflects its size.
George’s Theatre
Lounge has a show bar,
disco, game room
restaurant all under one
roof...What more could
you want? Show nights
are Thursday through
Sunday with Sweets on
the lights and hot, hot
disco between per
formances.
Tracy Lee, Joann,
Carla and Meridith are
the regular girls... but
then how can you call
them regular... they’re
fantastic. W’hen Tracy
Lee glides and swirls
across the stage I’m
reminded of dear
Scarlett and the refined
Rhett waiting for her at
the bottom of the stairs.
Joann is just hot. That
girl’s got more rhythm
than a sixteen cylinder
Dussie!. Meridith is just
trash, trash, trash, (I
love it) and Carla, the
newest member of the
troup is rapidly
becoming a real crowd
pleaser. These girls are
real pros. Their
production and comedy
numbers have the whole
place jumping, cheering
and laughing.
After the show we
danced away on the
disco floor and then
tipped next door to the
Le Cafe for breakfest.
In fact, during our little
visit we managed to
have breakfast, lunch
and dinner at George’s
newest enterprise. The
decore and most im
portantly the food was
divine. I must admit
that I really stuffed
myself with the
homemade biscuts and
the special milk gravey.
And yet, with all this
madness going on we
still had time for a few
games of pinball in the
gameroom...a solid wall
of machines...I was in
heaven.
We arranged to
photograph the en
tertainers in mid af
ternoon. Can you
believe we made them
get into full face at
two? Dedication! Don
Rossignoll was to have
hosted the session but
his better half, George
Wilson, was forced to
put up with our mad
ness. Don had the
sudden urge to go
fishing...however from
the reports we heard he
had already caught the
fish and* was just
playing out his line.
All this talk about
fish made me hungry
again, so we tipped
back over to Le Cafe
for a late lunch and
cocktails on the patio. It
seems that the entire
Memphis krewe of
Apollo had the same
idea so we just had
a little tea party on the
sun deck.
Down the street a
ways, we ran into a
thriving group of
GOPS...no, not the
Republican kind,..that’s
the Group on Poplar
Street. Jeanette
Edwards of the But
terfly Cabaret told us
that the GOPS got their.

wont out together for

Mondays at the

come back for the
show...and quite a few

Loo Love (Miss
Memphis, and Miss Gay
Apollo), Wilma (Miss
Black Tennessee), Billie
Jo Casino (former Miss
Dallas) and Fancy
(what can I say...Miss
Penal Farm?) do the
shows every Friday and
Saturday night with
sip prise guests every
now and again. Jeanette
wanted our new editor
to stay home in
Memphis, but I carried
on so that she finally
■dented and let him tip
on out with me.
Stopped by the Rain
Check II and talked to
Mike Mvers and Jerry
K;mborough...then I
wandered upstairs
looking for Frank (you
see. I had heard all the
stories). He wasn’t
there and the place just
didn’t seem right. Of
course you can find him
at the upstairs bar on
weekends doing all sorts
of mad things. And
downstairs the disco
floe is packed with
some of Memphis’
c usiest numbers. But
alas, it was not meant
to be...business first and
all that...so I had to just
fantasize. On Friday
and Saturdays there’s
no fantasy though...you
have to see it to
believe!
Since we were close,
I decided to play Tricia
Tourist and visit the
Mississippi ...that’s a

was a queen there, The
Delta Queen and just
lots of river. It made
me SO thirsty and Gary
suggested we hightail it

Speaking of balls,
you ought to see the
