emceeing that I un
derstand and on July 2
she will hold the Miss
Entree pageant right
the*e on a brand new
stage.
Our new editor got
teed of me drooling all
over A1 and Handy so
he took my hand and
led me ever so gently
out the door and into
the Front Page...it’s
right next door...so
convenient. Gary used
to hold forth there at
the piano and he in
troduced me to his
old...I mean for
mer...boss Jimmy
Shankle...better known
to Memphians as
“Juicie Balls.” Later I
met his better half,
David Moore, who is
ou* cover man for June.
Gary tells me that these
two have been together
for five years now...I
don’t blame Jimmy...If
I could latch on to
something like that I’d
NEVER let go.
We had to miss their
Tuesday night beer bust
which I hear is really
wild. Oh. well, it
couldn’t have been as
wild as Juicie’s
backyard where we
photographed our cover
model. This little hairy
number just latched
onto me. Unfortunately,
it was not David but a
hairy little monkey who
wrapped his tail around
my arm and proceeded
to crawl all over mv
body. I’m not really
su»e if it was love or if
he was frightened by
the “attack” ostriches
from Africa or the
peacock. Well, it could,
have been any one of a
hundred little animals
that frightened him. The
zoo couldn’t have any
more animals than that
back yard. We finally
got my hairy little
Lionel to release my
gorgeous little body and
tipped on out of there.
Making pictures in a
zoo with a monkey
wrapped around your
neck had just psyched
me out completely. So,
it seemed .appropriate to
tip on over to the Psych
Out. Bette Hefner was
at the bar and let us in
on all the local grease
by introducing us to
Loretta, who has
promised to put it all in
print next issue . It’ll
probably be too hot for
the page.
The crowd moves in
early at the Psych Out
and stays late to boogie
down on the dance
floor. Sharon Wray, the
owner, is usually there
in the afternoon and
early evening, but when
we arrived she had
been struggling since
mid morning trying to
deal with a reluctant ice
machine and
automobile. Seems like
we all had a monkey on
our backs that day.
What a perfect excuse
fo» anotuer brew.

I didn’t realize how
much trouble I was in
store for later. Do you
think that trying to
move an editor from
Memphis to Atlanta is a
piece of cake? We did it
somehow. I really don’t
know how we made it
back to Interstate 40
and Nashville.
M» . Caldwell was a
bit under the weather
but got out of bed to
entertain us as
graciously as ever. He
has a lovely home not
fa* - from the Hermitage
just outside Nashville.
The guest room was
complete with black
satin sheets. I didn’t
know whether to go to
bed or make a dress. I
guess I’m just not used
to all this luxury. We
thought that the YE
OIJ) PLAYHOUSE was
luxuriously decorated.
Well, his home is just
too much to tee. Wayne
is already an institution
in Nashville so if I
outlive him I’ve decided
to buy his home and
give guided tours!
