Hi ya, Toots. Well, here we go again.
It’s^still a long hot summer and I’m really
enjoying every minute of it. With such hot
! events going on here I’ll bet you are too.
iThib one even that seems the hottest was
presentation of Michael Greer at Stage 5 by
Gabriel. With no advance notice, Michael
came to the club and the “King of Kamp”
took the town over. He is such a hit, he
was held over for an extra week. He did his
famous “Mona Lisa” act and gave us the
real tee on “Talullah in Heaven.” This
very talented entertainer, who writes his
own material, kept us laughing and every
now and then his Bette Davis would pop
through. He explained that it was hard to
tell when she’d pop out but for us it was
great fun. The originator of “Queenie” in
Fortune and Men’s Eyes, seems very much
at ease when he goes into one of his
songs...some he has written...others of our
popular modem writers. His specialty is
comedy and after seeing him on
stage...you don’t forget it.
Here’s a first for you,..Night club
Tupperware Party. Yes, now you may
place yoifu- orders and have a great time
winning prizes and sipping your favorite
beverages too...at Mendel’s Den. On
August 23 at 10 p.m. there will be
demonstrations and a company rep to tell
August 31,1977 at 9:00 PM
with DJ
you all about the Tupperware treasures. I
know you know a lot already, but my dears,
doesn’t this sound like fun? On the 24th
the Encore will have a “T in Disco” party
honoring their Oscar winning DeeJay,
Angelo, before he takes off for the national
deejay convention. There will be many Hot
Disco recordings given to the guests plus
the most popular play for your boogieing
It is just thrilling to know that Fortune
and Men’s Eyes is doing such good biz that
the show is being Held Over. I’m told that
as long as the box office stands up so will
the show. Howard Grunner has done a
wonderful job and the cast has been
receiving rave reviews from the Atlanta
critics. If you haven’s been out to see the
play, Do So. Phyllis never sends you out on .
a bad trip and this is one trip you will
remember.
King of the South contest was won by
Atlanta’s Wayne Nidiffer. The contest was
held in Fayetteville, Arkansas, August 6.
First runner-up was Rick Comer of Texas,
Second Runner-up was Terry Dollar of
Arkansas. The “Guy Friday” award, their
Mr. Congeniality, was also won by Wayne.
Congratulations, Wayne. I hope to see you
in Club Atlanta’s Contest!
Sweet Gum Head will have a special
event on September 15 when Rachel Wells
will be presented in “Faces.” Miss
Georgia will present a showcase of a Star
with dancers and the many “Faces” of the
ever popular beauty. The entire cast will
be there to greet the out of towners on
Labor Day weekend, so if you have
guests...here’s were to take ’em to see the
stars. ,
Speaking of Labor Day, well I don’t plan
to labor that day...not when Jim Nalley is
having a Fish Fry at the Onyx. This
another good trip to take. Golden Brown
Fish...what a dish...and a Special Show
with Mickey Day and Tiger Lil just to name
a couple of good Fish!
Onyx calendar of evemts is something
else. On August 23, Miss Tackey. August
31, Mee and my R. C. with Miss Atlanta :
Taisha Wallis and Oscar Winning Male
Lead, R.C.Cola.
Mr. Teenage Atlanta will be held at the
Onyx on September 3. This is Mr.
Nalley’s third year of presenting this
special show and award. 11 love children,
but these little darling boys are everything
but... If I could but cast a spell and let
them know that Phyllis is still here...with
their youth and my experierice, we could
have a Ball or Two. No, my dear, they’d
never ask me to be a judge at that contest .
I’d surely give them all first place and a
trophy!
Locker Room Disco is still the greatest
place, especially after hours. Roski
Fernandez and the Hollywood Hots are
there and their productions are the envy of
all Las. Vegas. If you don’t believe me, just
ask Gilda Golden. This month they will be
featuring new productions and a very
special Star Wars number. They will
present shows on Monday, Labor Day and
if you’re lucky...you can get Dixie Cups to
serye you. Dixie, my dear, give ’em the
good act and strike a Vogue pose too."After
all you are a star and they ought to know it!
If you get too Hot at the Disco...you can all
ways...get that, always...go next door to
the Locker Room Baths and get cooled
off...in or out of the new pool.
Margo Kirk, an extremely talented
singer and dancer who has appeared on
stages here in Atlanta and across the
country, will be featured at Mendel’s
Den for an indefinate run. Margo was
in the Theatre of the Stars production of
South Pacific with Michele Lee this season.
Negotiations are underway to book other
acts that the Atlanta audiences have en
joyed...like Wayland Flowers and the
popular group Gotham.
Joe Dorward is at the Chez Cabaret
piano bar. Let’s go sing along with him.
Tom Rush, guitarist and folk singer and
Bill are alive and in person at El Matador.
Shelley’s is still going strong, disco and
dinner wise, but I hear that it has been
bought by some local talented men who
believe in us and themselves. There will
be no dreaded drastic changes, so let’s
keep showing them how much we enjoy
Shelley’s.
What a Stink a certain bar owner made
when he took out an ad in another gay
publication asking all kinds of questions
that none of us could answer...not even
Phyllis.
