KFC Classic, one of only two
losses for the Panthers. And here
his team was with an eight-point
advantage at halftime.
But Perry's senior-dominated
team has a way of making things
happen. And when the second half
expired, Perry had responded, nearly
doubling its fust half output on the
way to a 71-64 win over the
Tornadoes.
"That's where our senior
experience comes in," said Keith
Wimberly, who led all scorers with
20 points. "We made a lot of
mistakes in that game at KFC. We
told ourselves tonight we had to
step it up and play like seniors, to/

Thirty-one seconds after Felton
left the game, Dominic Wright
squared up and hit a three-pointer to
cut the lead to 64-62.
But after Thomas called timeout,
Perry refused to let the game slip
away and ran its transition to
perfection, with Keith Wimberly
connecting for a layup and a 66-62
lead.
Monroe closed the gap back to
two, but the Panthers again
accelerated up the court and made
quick work of the Tornado press,
with King being able to make a
short baseline jumper.
Wimberly finished with a game
high 20 points. Hayes led Monroe
with a team-high 18.

by some blowouts.
"We scored eight or nine runs a
ball game last year," Brown said.
"But that's misleading because there

little harder or somebody who was a

don't like hunting.
(2) Contrary to what some anti
hunting groups charge, hunting is
not as easy as shooting fish in a
barrel. Hunters do not simply walk
into the woods and pick out the deer
or elk they want. On the national
level, it takes one hunter an average
of three-and-a-half years of hunting
to harvest one deer. In some states,
it takes 10 years for a hunter to be
successful, indicating a fair contest
between hunter and game.

Perry scored the last five points of
the quarter to pull within 49-47.
The comeback was not
complete. But the message was
clear: whatever intimidated the
Panthers in the first half was gone.
The fourth quarter was again a
show for the five starting seniors,
but an unlikely junior got a chance
to throw his name into the scheme.
With Perry hanging on to a slim
SB-SS advantage, substitute Garriet
Curry took a bounce pass at the top

Gann.

a foul.
Curry, a liability at the line,
missed the free throw but followed
his own shot and pumped in the
putback for Perry's biggest lead of
the game at 62-55 with 3:15 left.
"Garriet Curry, with just a few
minutes, gave us a big, big lift,"
Thomas said. "Big, big lift. Had we
been behind, he would have played
more. But we were afraid [Monroe]
would foul him."
Perry did make only 14-28 free
throws for the game, but the
Panthers made their tosses in the
crunch count, converting their final
five of seven.
For Perry, the 46-point second
half outburst was just part of
Thomas' Motivation 101. It appears
that it came to the Panthers' aid in
the nick of time.
