Farm Bureau Pleased With Referendums The president of the state's largest general farm organization says he's pleased with the outcome of two producer referendums held recently. "The Georgia Farm Bureau is very pleased that producers cast a vote for their future in increasing the grower assessment on tobacco," said T.M. "Mort" Ewing, president of the Geogia Farm Bureau. "We are equally pleased that peanut producers voted to continue the Georgia Agricultural Commodity Commission for Peanuts." Seventy-two percent of the tobacco growers voting approved a measure to increase the amount of assessment they pay on their crop from 10 cents per hundredweight to 30 cents per hundredweight The increase takes effect with the 1994 crop and provides the Georgia Agricultural Commodity Commission for Tobacco with about $240,000 for promotion, education and research purposes. In a separate referendum, peanut producers gave the Georgia Peanut Commission a 90.2 percent vote of confidence in reauthorizing the grower organization fa three years. Both the Tobacco and Peanut commissions are operated by growers and use producer assessments collected to fund promotion, education and research essential to the future of the two crops. m I Mmrn ft ■ * llmhl ■m ■■ js. \ . §*sb' ••• .-4" ?
