Sundquist Acts As Page For General Assembly

William Sundquist, son of Mr.
and Mrs. John Sundquist of Perry,
served as a page for the General
Assembly on Monday, Feb. 28.
His letter from Rep. Larry

Last week the nation was in
formed by the media about the
hormone pill "melatonin." People
who have trouble sleeping took no
tice, and the companies that manu
facture it sold out of it immedi
ately. Health food stores, nation
wide, have lists of anxious people
to call as soon as they can get in
their next shipment.
I'm very happy that these people
who have a hard time getting a
good night's sleep can have this
natural product that can be helpful
to them. They need something that
is not toxic to their bodies and I’m
excited that they’ve been told of its
existence.
Guess what guys. The health
food stores are full of all kinds of
helpful products that are safe. Prod
ucts for pain, inflammation, aller
gies, nausea, the list goes on and
on.
However, the scary monster is
that the FDA (Food and Drug Ad
ministration) wants it to be unlaw
ful for anyone to pass the informa
tion on to the American public that

Sundquist is a senior at Perry
High School and is an active mem
ber of the AFROTC unit. He served
as the Flight A Commander during
the fall semester and is serving as
Administrative Officer this
semester. He was a recent partici
pant in the American Legion

phan was banned. It interfered with
the drug prozac. Chapparral was
banned. The Indians have used it for
centuries for cancer. I expect red
clover to be next because people are
finding out how wonderful it is.

Pageant marks the fifteenth in the
school’s history, all sponsored by
the High School Student Council.
Admission is $5.

Westfield scholarship as well as the
cost for sending one senior to the
Presidential Classroom in
Washington each year.

ting a political club started at Perry
High.
Sundquist said of his service as a
page, "it was an honor and pleasure
to serve for such a nice, prestigious
man, and we in Perry are fortunate
to have Larry Walker represent us."

Trinity United Methodist Church in
Brunswick for six years.
When he moved to Perry, he be
came a member of the Perry United
Methodist Church Choir where he
sang for three years. He has served
as assistant church organist since

Richard C. Talton
Perryan Talton Honored
By Farm Credit Service
Perry resident Richard C. Talton
has been presented the "Dis
tinguished Cooperator Award" by
Farm Credit Services.
The actual presentation was made
Friday, March 4, at the Georgia
Cooj>erative Council's annual meet
ing in Macon.
A lifelong farmer and dairyman,
Talton has been very involved in
the leadership of various coopera
tive organizations over the years.
In 1982, he was elected to serve
on the board of directors for Central
Georgia Production Credit
Association and served as both a
member of the group's executive
committee and as vice-chairman
during his tenure.
After the formation of South
Central Farm Credit, he continued
to serve as a director until his res
ignation in June 1992 and, in fact,
was a part of that board when it re
ceived a certificate of distinction in
the 1990 Columbia District
Director Recognition Program and
also when it was iater named Most
Outstanding Board for 1990 by
Farm Credit Bank.
Additionally, Talton served 30
years, from 1963-1993, as a mem
ber of the Flint Electric
Membership Corporation’s Board of
Directors.
He has also served on the
Administrative Board and Board of
Trustees for Perry United Methodist
Church and was a director for both
die Bank of Perry and the Houston
County Farm Bureau.
Talton and his wife, the former
Elizabeth Perdue, have three daugh
ters, Joye, Jean and Richilynn, and
several grandchildren.

In 1990, he and Elizabeth
became Youth Coordinators at
Perry United Methodist Church
where they served for two years.
Andy served on the Council on
Ministry for two years and the
Administrative Board for two years.
He is currently on the Finance
Committee and assists Elizabeth
who is Nursery Coordinator.
Elizabeth is a substitute Sunday
School teacher in the Youth
Department.
Elizabeth, Andy and Bob Messer
are servers for the Wednesday night
suppers. Moms Messer and
Rowers cook these meals and
grandfather, Paul Flowers, baby sits
with granddaughter,: Lauren, 34
months old. Claire, one week old,
will be added to his babysitting du
ties.
Andy’s parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Paul Flowers, retired, moved from
Brunswick to Kathleen in May
1992, when granddaughter, Lauren
was bom. (Andy is an only child
and Lauren was their only grand
child at that time.)
Andy and Elizabeth were married
in Perry United Methodist Church;
Lauren was baptized there; and
Claire will be baptized there in the

Andy’s hobbies include music,
working with computers, and he is
a ‘new car’ buff, interested in new
tests and new equipment.
He is vice-president of the local
American Cancer Society Board and
for two years chaired the auction,
the major fund-raising event for that
organization. He is now chairing
“Relay for Life” which will be held
May 20-21. Eleven teams have al
ready committed to participating -
he would like 20 or more to partic
ipate.
He is on the Salvation Army
Advisory Board and the Public-
Relations Committee of the Perry
Area Chamber of Commerce.
For a hobby, Elizabeth likes to
read. She is president of the
Balvaunuca Club, a director of the
Perry Area Chamber of Commerce
and is a member of the Downtown
Development Authority.
This family is definitely an asset
to the Perry community.
