Freshwater forecast
Seminole Lake is at normal level and muddy. Surface water
temperature is in the mid 50s. Windy conditions are making fishing
dHficult, but bass are still being caught back in the coves. Bass were
taken using RatLTraps and crankbaits. Speckled perch catches
have been numerous, especially in the shallow areas. Hybrids are
also hitting near the dam.
- Reported by Jack Wingate, Wingate's Lunker Lodge
Blackshear Lake is at normal level and muddy. Bass and
crappie fishing has been good. Both are beginning to move
shallow. Crappie is still being found in deeper waters. Catfish are
still plentiful, taking worms and chicken livers.
- Reported by Sonny Coleman, Mitchell's Balt and
Tackle
Sinclair Lake is at normal level and stained. Bass fishing is
improving daily and the best catches have come hitting spinnerbaits
and worms back into the Little channels and around wooded areas.
Bass have also been hitting at the points. Crappie fishermen are
having success trolling with jigs. White bass and hybrids have been
fair to good, using a Ditto 9 plug. Some hybrids are hitting white
Model A Bombers. Lastly, catfish are plentiful taking cutbait and live
worms. Surface water temperature his in the mid 50s.
• Reported by Glenn Colwell, Little River Park
Jackson Lake is at normal level and stained. Crappie are a little
slow but are hitting live minnows over brushpiles and under bridges.
Large mouth bass are being caught hitting brightly colored worms
anywhere from topwater to 15 feet deep. Hybrid fishing is also veiy
good.
• Reported by Van Kersey, Kersey's Marina
West Point Lake level is approximately five feet below full pool
and stained. Surface water temperature is approximately 55-60
degrees. Most largemouth bass have moved off the banks
temporarily. Try using Caroina-rigged worms or lizards halfway back
into the coves. Crappie are in full spawn, hitting green and yellow
jigs or live minnows. Hybrids are schooling near the dam and some
large stripers are also beginning to school. Watch for the seagulls to
spot the fish. Bucktail jigs are working best now.
- Reported by George Marovlch, Highland Marina
Eufaula Lake is at normal level and heavily stained to clear.

Purple Martins Need Our Help
Purple martins are the most
popular member of the swallow
family. Winter residents of South
America, martins appear here in
Georgia in late February or early
March. They are cheerful birds that
spend their summer days perching
on wires or canvassing the airways
in search of flying insects. As
guardians of the poultry yard,
martins also defend their territory
against hawks and crows.
Martins eat butterflies,
grasshoppers, houseflies and drag
onflies. Although martins feed on
flying insects, their ability to con
trol mosquitoes has been overrated.
Studies have shown that most
mosquitoes are active at twilight or
night, since martins look for food
from dawn to dusk, mosquitoes are
only available to them at sunrise
Successful Boat Shopping Means Planning
When the weather becomes too
cold for fishing, cruising and water
skiing, many boaters head for the
comfort of winter boat shows.
Walking a show floor to find a
new boat can be almost as fun as
boating itself, and those who "chart
their course" before cruising these
elaborate maritime displays will
find the right boat at the right price.
Successful boat shopping begins
at home.
"Before even attending a boat
show, determine exactly what you
want in your boat," said Gene Eiler,
dealer development manager for
Yamaha Marine.
"Gather the whole family and
find out who wants to water-ski,
how many people are into fishing
and whether or not the family plans
any overnight cruises. Once you’ve
decided which activities are most
important, you’re half way io
determining which boat you want
So buy." 1
Use the family discussion to
develop a list of boat specifications
that are considered most important,
mark each feature as a "must have"
or a "can do without," and leave
space after each item for a check
mark.
Determine your budget, and
make a space on the list to record
the prices of different boats. Include
additional lines for the price of
motors, options, delivery charges,
make-ready charges and other costs.
At the show, use the index in
the show program to locate exhibits
with the type of boat you desire.
As you look over each model,
use your check-off list to make sure
the boat has all the features you
want, and add up the costs to see if
it is within your budget. Don’t
forget to ask about trade-in
possibilities if you already own a
boat.
Many marine dealers "show
specials." These boats are priced
lower than their regular showroom
cost, so keep an eye out for such
deals. Shoppers can also save by
purchasing boat packages that
include motors, trailers or
accessories.
"A motor is usually the most
costly addition to a boat, so budget
conscious buyers should find a good
boat-and-motor package. For
example, over 40 independent boat
builders sell select Yamaha marine
engines. Boat manufacturers who
work closely with Yamaha buy
their engines at discount and pass
the savings on to consumers," Eiler
said.
Shop around for a good dealer as
well as a good boat.

Chances are good that, if the

Martins make nests from twigs,
weeds, dead leaves, grasses, and
other materials, the female lays
three-to-eight white eggs and incu
