April is month of the
young child in Perry
Mayor James E. Worrall and a
group of three-year-old children of
Meadowdale Learning Center will
officially declare April as Month of
the Young Child Friday morning
with the signing of a proclamation.
The signing of the proclamation is
sponsored state-wide by the Georgia
Child Care Association members.
Chandra White, director of
Meadowdale Learning Center, said
that the month is a special month
to "celebrate the child." "And this
month," she said, "we plan to
celebrate the importance of each
child’s health." Ms. White said that
the calendar is full of many special
activities and field trips throughout
the month for our toddlers up
through the school children.
Each week is dedicated to a
particular celebration. The month
begins with "Children's Week".
"Child Care Awareness Week" and
"Teacher Appreciation Week" will
follow. The month will conclude
with "Children Helping Children
Week".
Those events planned dedicated
to the child's health will be a
monthly menu of healthy breakfast,
lunch and snacks, exercises at the
park, a field day, and a special
program for our parents entitled
"Your Child’s Health" which will
be a workshop given by Rpse
Reilly, a registered nurse and
instructor at the Perry Hospital.
Parents will also partake in a "Good
Morning" healthy breakfast on
April 4th.
"Some other exciting activities
that we have planned for the Month
of the Young Child," Ms. White
said, "are picnics at the park, our
annual dogwood tree donation to the
city of Perry, dancing under the
pavilion party, school spirit day,
professional spring photographs and
a kindergarten preview for those
children attending kindergarten next
year."
During the week of April 4-8,
school children who are on their
Spring Break will find many
exciting activities planned such as
lunch at Pizza Hut and a trip to
Macon's Discovery Zone.
"I am very proud of a program
planned during 'Children Helping

This program is designed to expose
preschoolers to using riding toys
safely through a fun activity and
provides a parent-awareness
program that involves the parents
in safe behavior practices to ensure
their child's well-being."
The Trike-A-Thon will benefit
children with catastrophic diseases
and reduce accidents involving
children on riding toys.
"Children are special every day,"
said Ms. White, "but we really go
