Crossroads Civitan Club plans April 18 chartering service BY BHENDA THOMPSON Staff Writer A brand new dinner club being formed in the Perry area is just one meeting away from receiving its charter. According to James and Hazel Miller, certified club builders for Civitan International, the Cross roads Civitan Club will hold its final pre-charter meeting at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 11, at the Perry Library, with official charter festivities planned for April 18 at the Northrop Cafeteria on Thomp- Evans, from 4A- But the contrast between surgery at two different facilities is shocking. Miller added that the new club is open to all adults and will be meeting on the second and fourth Monday evening of every month. All members who sign up by Charter Night will be listed as charter members of the club. As for Charter Night, Miller said that festivities begin at 7 p.m. and will include dinner at a cost of $8.50 per plate. On the international level, Civi tan’s major emphasis is toward helping people with mental retarda tion and other developmental disabilities (MR/DD). Their most widely recognized fundraising program is the Civitan Candy Box Project. Serviced by volunteers, 100 percent of this project’s net proceeds go to help people with MR/DD. Additionally, Civitan funds the Civitan International Research Cen ter, a research treatment facility for MR/DD located at the University of Alabama in Birmingham.
