Lipotropics prevent fat build-up in liver
What are lipotropics? In Greek
"lipo" means fat and "tropic" means
loving. Lipotropics are
methionine, choline, inositol and
betame. What do they do? Their
prime function is to prevent
abnormal or excessive accumulation
of fat in the liver.
They also increase the liver’s
production of leathin, which keeps
cholesterol more soluble; detoxify
the liver and increase resistance to
disease by helping the thymus
gland carry out its functions.
Who needs lipotropics and why?
Everyone needs lipotropics, some
more than others. Anyone who
eats meat falls into the latter
Rep. Rowland announces
he won't seek re-election
By VETO F. ROLEY

After 12 years in office. United
States Representative Roy Rowland
is calling it quits.
Rowland, who represents Geor
gia's Bth District, which includes
66,000 voters in Houston County
and just under half of Perry, sur
prised the state Democratic Party by
announcing that he would not run
for re-election Thursday, April 7.
"We just wanted to come back to
private life,” said Rowland. "This
has not been an easy decision.
These have been exciting and pro
ductive years.
"This has been a particularly dif
ficult decision when I think of the
people we have worked with and
represented over these 12 years. I
will always be grateful to the citi
zens of both the old and new Bth
District for giving us this opportu
nity."
Shelby McCash, Rowland's
spokesman, said that Rowland was
leaving office with a lot left to do,
but that he "feels there will always
be more to do."
"He is as enthused as he has al
ways been about the legislative
process," said McCash. "But, he
felt that there had to come a time
when he would step down.
"They (Rowland and his wife of
48 years Luella) would like to be
come private citizens," said Mc-
Cash. "He felt the time had come,
that he was ready to become a full
time citizen."
McCash said that Rowland had
no current plans after his term is
completed in January. However, he
said Rowland would continue to be
involved in the issues as a private
citizen and would take part in
"community activities."
Rowland made a major impact in
several areas of legislation, most
dealing with health issues. Some of
the issues he worked to get passed
by Congress include a ban on
Quaaludes, a bill giving benefits to
"atomic" veterans, the health
assessment of the "Superfund" Act,
legislation to reform Medicare and
the National AIDs Commission.
Additionally, he helped author
planks in the Clean Water Act and
Clean Air Act
Rowland will leave the House of
Representatives with several pieces
of legislation on the floor, includ
ing the Health Care Consensus Act
which is an alternative to President
Bill Clinton's Health Care pro
posal.
In an age of lawyers as legisla
tors, Rowland, who practiced
medicine in Dublin for 28 years,
was unique, being one of only two
physicians in the United States
Congress. Previous to serving in
category. Because the average
consumption of fat in the U.S. is
now 40 to 45 percent of total
calories, lipotropics are
indispensable. By helping the liver
produce leathin, they're helping to
keep cholesterol from forming
dangerous deposits in blood vessels,
lessening changes of heart attacks,
arteriosclerosis, and gallstone
formation.
Lipotropics also aid the thymus
in stimulating the production action
of phagocytes (which surround and
gobble up invading viruses) and
destroying foreign or abnormal
tissue.
