"Any plan that has been pro posed does not meet the needs of that facility (Perry Middle School)," said Tom Whitten, spokesman for Concerned Citizens of Perry. Blackmon repeated the board's position that all five of the sys tem's middle schools were over crowded. He noted that several years ago, the board was faced With the need for new facilities due to con tinued growth within the county and mandates from the state through QBE demanding smaller class sizes. After the board meeting, Donald Free, a member of Concerned Citi zens of Perry, said that his group was not satisfied by the actions of the board. "They were a little arrogant at the meeting," said Free. "I don't think they have the concerns of the county as a whole." Each middle school will cost the county $6 million. The first school will be constructed using state and local monies as part of the state fa cilities plan. In order to build the second school, the board either had to raise the funds through a referendum or find a creative way to get the money, such as an intergovemmen chief will be classified a department head and, like all other county de partment heads, will report directly to the chairman of the county commission. A new government authority, the Houston County School Dis trict Building Authority, has been set up by the Legislature for the purpose of building the second new middle school. The authority will issue bonds in the amount of $6 million to build the school. The board will then lease the school back from the authority in an lease-to-own agree ment, with the authority using the lease money to pay off the bonds. At the end of the agreement, the board will become the owner of the new school. By going through the Houston County School District Building Authority, the board avoided the problem of getting a bond referen dum passed by the voters of Hous ton County. In a meeting with Concerned Ci tizens of Perry on March 24, board member Tiena Fletcher said the ar rangement would not result in a tax increase to pay for the middle school. The act was passed by the Geor gia House of Representatives by a vote of 132-0, and by the House of the Senate by a vote of 47-0. The mysterious, frustrating fibromyalgia Every year between three to six million people (most of them women) are diagnosed with a mystery condition: fibromyalgia. It's also called a host of other names: fibrositis, myofascial spasms, muscular rheumatism, or myotendinosis. But no matter what you call it, this condition is a particularly frustrating one. Patients say they are plagued by sleeping problems, followed by severe morning fatigue and aches and pains in the muscles and joints. When pressed, stuck, heated or cooled, these areas may be quite painful. Yet, standard medicine can give only temporary relief. Patients may be given a non-steroid medication, injected with cortisone or sent to a physical therapist for treatment with heat and massage. Sometimes these hit-or-miss solutions can make the patient feel worse. The search for a viral or chemical cause of fibromyalgia has also left researchers empty-handed. In fact, the Harvard Medical School Health Letter says: "No specific Loudermilk, from 4A Still, during that election year I was pregnant and, as pregnant women get, emotional at times. They (everyone, basically) say pregnant women are just too emo tional but the only time I remember breaking down and crying was one evening when Bill Clinton and A 1 Gore held a public forum for col lege grads that aired on MTV. It was so depressing. These young adults (just one or two years younger than me) had no hope of getting a job that would allow them to begin a career and Clinton and Gore didn't assure them or me they could change that. It made me think: "If it's this bad now, what will my child have Kusar is on collegiate dean’s list Joseph Kusar, a freshman Bus iness Administration major at Western State College of Colorado, has been named to the school's Dean's List for winter term. He is the son of Joseph Kusar of Perry. abnormality has consistently been found in the muscles or connective issues of people with fibromyalgia and nothing is known to be awry in their body chemistry.” So what's the key to helping these patients get bettor? First, we have to look at the whole person, rather than just her muscles. For example, this illness has strong psychological component such as anxiety, compulsiveness and depression. This means that while treating fibromyalgia, issues like being abused as a child or living with an alcoholic must also be addressed. Many people with this puzzling pain disorder are also sedentary and out of shape. Research shows that aerobic exercise can improve sleep disturbances, fatigue and pain of fibromyalgia. And although chiropractic is not a treatment in itself for chronic muscle pain, it has been a blessing to millions. Here's why: Wrapped around the outside and lining the inside of muscles is a strong sheet of connective tissue called muscle fascia. You see it when you to face?" I cried for two hours. * * * Also because I have a child, I worry about crime, especially the fact that criminals are getting younger and younger. We have allowed our justice sys tem to stretch the freedoms ensured all Americans in the Bill of Rights so badly out of shape that people are not afraid anymore of being caught for committing a crime. I don't think people should be publicly flogged for a few cases of vandalism but I would probably vote to perform a "Bobbit" (named for Lorena) on rapists and child mo des ters without blinking an eye. In the meantime, we should all be grateful to the volunteers of Hospice of Houston County for the wealth of time and compassion they give for the betterment of our community. Remember, the nervous system coordinates and organizes your entire body. A body that has a has a healthy flow of nerve impulses between the brain and the body parts is stronger and able to heal itself. One good thing Knox said that I agreed with is that violent crime of fenders should be required to serve their entire sentence under "harsh conditions” (in other words, drop the color televisions, sleeping in and reading most of the day and using our tax dollars to set up athletic leagues and departments and providing other recreational equipment). Work them from sunrise to sunset and make them wish they'd never broken the law. The way the system is now, criminals are treated better than most law abiding citizens. Personally, I think my daughter deserves to be treated better than Charles Manson.
