Young noodle gardener
BY PAULINE LEWIS
Staff Writer
Young Steven Lewis, 3 1/2 year
old son of Joey and Melanie Lewis

So, Uncle Russell helped Steven
"plant" noodles.
Later, after Steven went home,
Uncle Russell planted tomato
plants where Steven had planted his
noodles.
Steven will probably think it's a
miracle when he sees that his
"noodles" have turned into tomato
plants!

It's time to put out your hummingbird feeders
As spring approaches and
hummingbird sightings become
more and more frequent, wildlife
officials at the Department of
Natural Resources are saying that
now is the perfect time to put out
your hummingbird feeders.
Although you can buy a
commercial solution to go in your
feeder, it is easy to make the
solution at home. All you have to
do is mix four-parts water and one
part sugar. For best results, the
solution should be boiled for 2-3
minutes, cooled and then poured

In addition to the common ruby

were sighted in Georgia this past
winter. Out of more than 40
reported sightings of rare species,
10 were verified. Seven rufous

The Georgia Nongame-
Endangered Wildlife Program,
Department of Natural Resources,
is analyzing survey data collected
by Hummingbird Helpers over the
past five years.
Terry Johnson, Manager’of the
Nongame-Endangered Wildlife
Program, said, "The Hummingbird
Helper Survey will help determine
whether or not hummingbird
populations are holding their own
in the state. It will also provide us
with a wealth of information as to
how Georgians can better manage
their backyards for hummers.
All Georgians are encouraged to
become "Hummingbird Helpers."
This year we are asking Georgians
to share their experiences regarding
hummingbird behavior.
To receive a 1994 Hummingbird
Helper Survey form and a free seed
packet, send a self-addressed,
stamped business-sized envelope
