-Wednesday, April 13,1994 "Houston Times-Journal Page 2A Friday fire damages area duplex BY BRENDA THOMPSON Staff Writer Two Perry families are looking for new places to live this week after a Friday morning fire gutted one side of a rental duplex and wreaked smoke and water damage on the other. According to Perry Fire Chief Gary Hamlin, an altered cord feeding into a space heater is believed to have started the blaze at 1103-B Broad Street A friend of Eugene Napier, the tenant in 1103-B, was home at the time of the fire and called the fire department at 11:12 a.m. after smelling smoke. Hamlin says his department responded within two minutes of the call, but that the side in which the fire started was fully engulfed in Please see FIRE, page 9A Base supporters can display RAFB license plates The pride of Middle Georgia. That’s what several area residents have said they feel about Robins Air Force Base. Now, they can display that pride wherever they go. A license plate, similar to the Georgia state issued plates but dawning the Team Robins emblem, is available on base and at area locations. The plate, which costs $5, is available on base at the Skills Development Center, base restaurant, Information, Tickets and Tours office in the Smith Community Center anu the Museum of Aviation. Thanks to the Middle Georgia Military Affairs Committee, plates are available for purchase off base at the various Middle Georgia chambers of commerce. Volunteer Houston County will join many communities around the country in observing National Volunteer Week, April 17 through 23, 1994. According to Carol hanna, Executive Director, the week’s activities will give recognition to the contributions of local citizens active in volunteering and will encourage all citizens to become involved as volunteers in their community.
