hits, a walk and two Perry errors,
taking the lead 3-2.
Although Perry would give runs
grudging, Ware County slowly
built its lead, adding single runs in
the second and third and three runs
in the fourth to build an 8-2 advan
tage.
Perry would get back one run in
the fifth. Derrick Oliver and
Cantrell would start the inning by
drawing back-to-back walks. Jamie
Walker would reach on an infield er
ror to load the bases with one out.
However, only one run would score
as Gator pitcher Jeff Sloan sand
wiched an RBI walk to Jason Brett
around two strikeouts.
The Gators would put the game
away in the fifth and sixth innings,
scoring two in the fifth and four in
the sixth enroute to a 14-3 lead.
But, before they left Waycross,
the Panthers would strike once
more. Percy would get two final
runs off singles by Terry Yawn and
Brett. Both runs would cross the
plate with two outs.
"They've (Ware County) got an
excellent ballclub,” said Jones.
"You always want to play folks
who are real good. It kind of shows
you how far you've come.
"They're one of the best teams in
the region. I think they have the
capability of going a long way (in
the playoffs)."
Jones said he learned several
things about his team Friday night
"I think I learned that we still have
some fight left," he said. "I saw
that we are competitive, that we
have a competitive spirit. V/e came
