First, of course, I must talk to Sam and persuade him to tell me if those people who picketed his office and accused him of a cover-up are onto something. Or...perish forbid...that they are a bunch of nuts! * * * The subject of outer space not only is intriguing...it can drive you nuts. For example, there is one riddle that has haunted me since I was capable of asking questions: We here on earth are accustomed to everything having a boundary. Loudermilk, from 4A I read an article in a magazine re cently that stated that this genera tion of young working people will be poorer than their parents. Personally, I think knowing that I'll never be as financially secure as my parents and that the chances of my daughter becoming as finan cially secure as we can manage are slim is very depressing. Purple Martins need good Perry homes Attention birdwatchers, the Department of Natural Resources, Nongame-Endangered Wildlife Program is challenging you to attract purple martins to your backyard. Residing in Georgia from spring through early fall, the purple martin is a songbird which is highly dependent on man for its habitat. Both old and young martins live in structures built by man for nesting purposes. While older martins will return year after year to the same nesting sites, young birds seek to occupy new structures. A first wave of older purple martins known as scouts began arriving in Georgia in early to mid- February. These birds almost always return to the same place COME HOME TO FARMERS FRIDAY & SATURDAY SUPER SALE! mm \ VoU ' o'r°W' aUN ' e Jr9^^3 / sPt / ’s£'l/ fe®S\ [fegVj COUNTRY HURRY FRIDAY & SATURDAY ONLY!] IWtw 4o [j r^7t=r hiQ P \ - Ml mMlddi k^REOPEN^ CURRENT <2; |£> ACCOUNT TODAY AT ggPARMERSrJ! mhbhu i ; j * J§: m ' h; , V ; | , e/ SP® fl Balvaununca Club members are busy preparing for the upcoming Dogwood Ball to be held Saturday, April 30 at the Agricenter. People wanting to erect new structures for the purple martin will be trying to attract those birds bom last year who will be first-time nesters. These young birds who arrive three to four weeks after the scouts, should be showing up any day now looking for fresh new places to nest and raise their young. Although attracting these birds to your backyard may be difficult, recent research findings may help increase your chances of attracting martins. There are several types of housing that you can construct to attract nesting martins: these structures range from houses made from natural gourds to the most common "apartment" style houses.
