has been named to the winter 1994

grounds, efforts expended toward
getting prepared for a career, and
what MGT, its faculty, peers and
experiences at the school had meant
to them in reaching this point.
Reid, the daughter of N.D. and
Gail Moore of Perry received a tro
phy and certificate, along with S2OO
from the Student Council to defray
her expenses at the state competi
tion this summer.
In accepting her award, Reid
thanked all who had a part in help
ing her reach her goal of complet
ing studies at MGT. She also
received roses from her husband,
Kevin Reid, and congratulations
from her parents, and friends as well
as the faculty of MGT and her
classmates.
"I am very proud of Angela. She
always worked hard to do her best.
I hope she does as well in Atlanta,”
her instructor Lewis Brinson said.
Marsha Haley, Reid's supervisor
when she was employed by the
New Perry Hotel, said of Angela,
"She was a good employee, depend
able and well-liked by other em
ployees and customers. She is
well-deserving of this award."
The GOAL program was spon
sored by the Warner Robins
Industry Now Group (WRING), and
the chambers of commerce in Perry,
Warner Robins, Peach and Dooly
counties and Hawkinsville/Pulaski
County.
Begun in the early 19705, GOAL
is an annual event held in Atlanta
to select the outstanding technical
student in the state. The program
continues to prosper because state
and local chamber officials support
proper recognition of outstanding
technical students of the year.
MGT first competed in this pro
gram in 1975. Although MGT has
never been honored with a state
winner, students from MGT have
always competed admirably.
Perhaps, with Angela Moore
Reid, 1994 will be their year!

Comm. Stafford will serve
on state rural health council
Hon. J. Sherrill Stafford,
Chairman of the Houston County
Board of Commissioners, had been
appointed by the Association
County Commissioners of Georgia
(ACCG) to serve as one of two
county government representatives
on the State Office of Rural Health
Advisory Council. Stafford
replaces Taliaferro County
Chairman Jesse Brown, who has
retired from elected office, and joins
Decatur County Commissioner
Glenda Battle on the Council.
The Advisory Council serves to
advise the State Office of Rural
Health and other policy makers on
the unique problems and
alternatives for delivering health
care in the rural areas of the state.
The Council is composed of some
25 members drawn from medical
schools, rural businesses, the
Georgia Hospital Association, the
Georgia Medical Association, the
Primary Health Care Association
along with state agency
representatives. Stafford and Battle
bring the perspective of county
government regarding these issues
to the table.
Currently, Ms. Denise
Komegay, Program Director of the
Area Health Education Center at the
Mercer School of Medicine, serves
as Advisory Council Chairman.
The group meets bi-monthly at
various locations around the state.
According to the Council, health is
a complex issue which is closely
related to economics, education,
transportation and ecology. Some
118 counties in Georgia are
considered rural.
ACCG believes that health care
is critical to economic development
and vitality; therefore, the
availability and accessibility of
health care resources is
tremendously important to county
governments throughout the state.
As Stafford recently commented, "A
lack of doctors, clinics and

Melatonin can
insure a good
night's sleep
Doesn't a good nights’ sleep
sound great? For some people it
sounds like the impossible dream.
What a blessing it is to be able to
sleep all night. If insomnia is a
problem for you, there’s hope.
The "hormone pill" that was on
the television news and in the
newspapers. Melatonin, was
impossible to get for a month after
it hit the news. Now it is in Perry.
Dr. Julian Whitaker, Editor of
Health and Healing Newsletter,
recommended it to us last May for
sleep disorders. In February, this
year, he recommended it for jet lag
also.
Last month, it was reported by
Dr. Bob Amot, on the CBS News,
that some people experience side
effects if the dosage is too high.
What they experienced resembled
the effects of a hangover. As a
result, some companies have
lowered their dosages of Melatonin
to prevent these side effects. It is
now available at Life Tree Natural
Foods in Perry.
