Ground broke on new care facility BY BRENDA THOMPSON Staff Writer Armed with gold-plated shovels and accompanied by city officials and other well-wishers, Todd and Lisa Barker of Perry officially broke ground for a new personal care home here Friday morning. To be located at 1900 Macon Road, at the corner of Macon and Inverness roads, the proposed per sonal care home will be 5,000 square feet in size and will house facilities for 15 residents. The name of the new facility will be Willow Ridge Personal Day one, from 1a- two-year-old son, Dylan Keith, also bom at Perry Hospital. In fact, five generations of Mrs. Offenberg's family have used the hospital for both the convenience and wide range of technological services available, like cat-scans, mammog raphy services, physical therapy and outpatient surgery, to name a few. "With all the new services that Perry Hospital provides locally, my family rarely has to travel out of town for hospital care," Mrs. Offenberg explained. Barbara Tyson, RN, who was on duty during Perry Hospital’s first day and assisted with Warren's birth, is also proud of Perry Hospital's progress. "The hospital has undergone so many changes in the past 25 years. DR. J. "Twenty-five years ago, there was no such thing as separate depart ments; the nurses worked all over the hospital. Perry Hospital now has 26 specialized departments to fill many of the needs of the local and surrounding communities," she concluded. Twenty-five years have passed since Warren Offenberg became the first baby bom at Perry Hospital, and the hospital will continue to be committed to keeping pace with the people's needs and health care ad vances. Wild Hare celebrates its first anniversary in Perry By PAULINE LEWIS Staff Writer The Wild Hare, an antique shop at 1137 Macon Street, Perry, is the Houston Times-Journal Business of the Week. Owned by Tom and Lora Arledge, the business has just celebrated its first anniversary this month. Eight dealers have leased space in the building; more dealer space is available. The customer will find everything from antiques, collectibles and Ilea market items, furniture, china, glassware, pictures, lamps, bric-a brac, brassware, toys, adults’ clothes and children's clothes (which the Arledges plan to ex pand). The customer will find a variety of functional and decorative items, including books (from very old to contemporary ones), old, one-sided victrola records, and a variety of baskets by Rosa Lee Thomas of Perry. Now through the end of April, adult clothes are one-half of the marked price, which is already low. The Arledges are making room for more household items. The shop is open six days per week, from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m., Monday - Friday and from 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. on Saturday, and occasion ally on Sunday afternoon. Tom runs the shop Monday through Friday, and Lora operates it on weekends. Tom preaches on weekends at St. Stephens Episcopal Church in Griffin, and Lora works at the Agricentcr during the week.
