All properties are located within the city limits of Perry and are currently zoned for residential purposes. As for firm dates and times for accepting and reading bids, none have been set yet. However, Perry City Attorney David Walker says that he expects to publish the re quired legal notice very soon and that things should start rolling by the latter part of May. All bids will be sealed and will be directed to City Manager Marion Hay’s office at Perry City Hall. City council will retain the right to reject any or all bids and, if all goes as expected, will likely take official action during their first meeting in Woods, from 3A search to find the best we have and offer it with an attitude of praise. His Holy Spirit will "translate" what we wish to express to God's ears and His heart. The second way our music can bring glory to God is if our music offers testimony to those around us of what God has done in our lives. On occasion throughout the ages God has gifted certain individuals with the ability to take words and weave a beautiful and elaborate expression of testimony, ands sometimes it is a much simpler expression. It may be words as splended as those found in the psalm of David, or it may be as simple as the words of the blind man healed by Jesus, "All I know is once I was blind, but now I see." Determining what is appropriate as far as "style" is concerned is a different matter. I don't consider myself that old, but it seems I've seen a lot of controversy over which "style of music is 'worthy' to be used in church." I remember well as a junior high student back in the late sixties and early seventies when we first brought a set of drums and guitars into the church sanctuary to accompany a youth musical entitled Good News. Some thought it was great...some thought the roof of the church would surely fall in on us in judgement. Even today there continues the "discussion" of what should we use--from the movement toward what's known as praise and Call 987-1823 To Subscribe Today! We have home covered. Several months ago while researching background information on Haydn’s The Heavens Are Telling from The Creation. I found quotes of how Haydn was criticized by the church father’s of his day in the late 1700's for writing church music that was too cheerful. The more things change the more they stay the same. So what is appropriate? Paul gave us some help in purpose of music as well as what to use in Colossians 3:16. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. Paul lays a foundation for not only singing but all of life when he encourages us to use the wisdom of God’s word to instruct one another in the Christian lifestyle and to encourage one another. By singing we do that through psalms—the scriptures, God’s written word. The praise we offer surely can come from what God speaks Himself. Through hymns-the grand old, and also the new, expressions through prose and rhyme of man's theology and our understandings of God. It is probably an indictment on us all but I've found most people can quote more verses of hymns than they can verses of scripture. It’s vital that they hymns we choose are fflm M* Larry Harvey 1108-B Washington St. 988-2532 Alabama Georgia * Mississippi Tax Map Page 6, Parcel 6 Jackson Lane. There are those who say that hymns should be ignored because they are outdated and don’t move the spirit. I say how can you read and sing the words of the grand old hymns that have stood the test of time and not be moved by their timeless expressions of faith. Through spiritual songs-the songs of testimony to what God has done in our lives. Some say these songs are not worthy because they are too emotional. In quoting the greatest commandment, Jesus said we are to love God with all we have, including our emotions. If we are to love Him with all, then we are surely to praise Him with all we are. Each congregation of believers has a personality just as individuals have one. And each has a "style" of worship that is most comfortable for the church as a whole. Some are most comfortable with the classic tradition of the organ and the composers of years gone by, some are at ease with the "band" leading energetic, new songs. Map code is P -38-37. right and one is not wrong, what is right is that any style on either end of the spectrum or anything in between be done out of a pure heart seeking to offer a gift of praise to God. what is wrong is to condemn another child of God for his tastes, if it is his best expression of praise. One final caution: never be lulled into a stagnant tradition, no matter what the style. God enjoys all expressions of praise and I'm certain we should be constantly and consistently growing and seeking new ways to praise. Just as we grow and mature and learn new words to express ourselves to our fellow man in everyday life, so too we must stretch ourselves as we learn to express ourselves to God. At least find out what others do and why they sing the way they sing. You may just find something you like that will surprise even you and be pleasing to God.
