Congressman Richard Ray will
be honored by the City of Byron,
the Byron Area Hospital Society
and friends on Friday, April 29,
1994 at 7:30 p.m. The event will
be held at the Byron Elementary
School and the public is invited.

presentations honoring Mr. Ray.
Senator Sam Nunn may be able to

hookup if his schedule permits.
Congressman Ray served the
Third Congressional District for 10
years in Washington. During this
time, Congressman Ray was deeply
involved in working for the
District's residents and preserving
the District’s historical treasures.
As an influential member of the
House Armed Services Committee,
Congressman Ray was instrumental
in securing funding and workload
for Robins Air Force Base and Fort
Benning. In addition, his position
as Chairman of the Committee’s
Environmental Panel allowed
Congressman Ray to work for the
advancement of the environment on
Page 5A
all military installations worldwide.
Additionally, Congressman Ray
was the driving force behind many
historic prservation efforts across
the District. He helped establish
the Byron Area Historical Society
and successfully worked to have the
Byron Railroad Depot declared a
Historical Site.
Due to a redistricting process
that split the historic Third District
and separated Congressman Ray
from his home base of Houston
County and much of Peach County,
Congressman Ray was upset in the
general election. However, Mr.
Ray has established an impressive
business as a consultant, and is
working with the 21st Century
Partnership which is the group of
citizens that will work the Defense
Base Closure and Realignment
Commission as it focuses on
Robins AFB.
The celebration will enjoy a
performance by the U.S. Air Force
Reserve Dixie Land Band and a flag
presentation by the Air Force
Materiel Command. Local singer
Jerri Morris will sing and sign for

Schwarzeneggar's Terminator 2,
whose subtitle was "judgment day."
The day of judgment is not a
frightening thought to God's
children, though. During it we will
find a loving Heavenly Father who
will see His children as forgiven
and justified through faith in
Christ.
The coming judgment day
reminds me of a story about a
young preacher who was visiting in
the community. he began a
conversation with an older
gentleman and asked, "Do you have
salvation?" The man replied, "No,
but I have arthritis."
"No," the preacher replied, "I
mean are you lost?" The man
retorted, "Nope, I've lived here all
my life."
The preacher was now frustrated
and exclaimed, "I hope you're ready
for the Judgment Day because it
may be coming today or
tomorrow!" The man answered,
"Well please don’t tell my wife
about it. She'll want to go goth
days.”
