Celebration
not complete
without you
If walls could talk, none would
have more intriguing stories than
the walls of Perry Hospital. Each
room could give a 25 year account
of personal glimpses into the lives
of people from Perry and the
surrounding communities. The
stories would include bravery in
facing illness, victories over disease
and jubilance at new births. The
stories would include a parade of
people performing many acts of
kindness, touching lives in a
special and caring way.
Many stories would relate to
staff members who have gone
beyond the duties of work over into
extreme human compassion. The
stories would be full of joy, fears,
triumphs and tears. Perry Hospital
walls have heard both a baby's first
cry and a peron's last good-byes. If
walls could talk, I am sure they
would tall about Mrs. Gladys
O’Neill, who is 87 years old and
crochets hats for all the newborns.
After all, we wouldn't want any of
our newborns to get cold.
The walls would speak of
extraordinary staff who view their
work not only as a job, but a
calling. They would be sure to
include many events such as staff
changing a tire for an elderly
visitor. They would tell about Dr.
Stewart, who gives a Halloween
Party each year for all the kids in
town. The walls would have to
report of the "Pink Ladies" who are
seen each evening passing out juice
to patients. The walls would report
of nurses and staff who have worked
beyond their regular shifts to
provide comiort and care for their
patients. The stories would not be
complete without including the
people of the Perry community
who pour in carrying flowers,
candy, a good book or just a
comforting word or prayer for a
patient.
Perry Hospital reflects the
tremendous tradition of Perry in
providing a personal touch of
caring. Anyone who has had to
spend time in an out-of-town
hospital knows the strain of being
in an unfamiliar environment. The
inconvenience of parking, eating
out combined with the difficulty of
not knowing anyone. Having a
local hospital is a tremendous asset
to the community. When
employees were asked what they
felt was the best asset of working at
Perry Hospital, several responded
by saying the staff was like a large
family. A family that pulls
together to support and help each
other. A family that shares a
common goal of giving quality
care.
In March, a number of the staff
from all departments gathered and
wrote a philosophy for Perry
Hospital. It is as follows: "The
philosophy of Perry Hospital is to
care for all with concern,
compassion and commitment.”
The family of employees and
Perry Hospital is celebrating its
25th Anniversary. Just as with all
anniversary parties, our celebration
will not be complete without the
presence of old friends and new
friends, former patients, employees
and the Perry community.
